Patricia Rettle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 13, 2017.

Patricia Jane Rettle, nee Switala, 69, of Swansea, Illinois, born December 7, 1947, in Belleville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at home.

Patricia spent her career with Memorial Hospital in Belleville as a dietary aide for almost 40 years. She was a past member of the Mascoutah Sportsman's Club's Ladies Axillary. She also enjoyed attending the Stock car races at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, when her sons were part of several race teams. She also enjoyed watching Nascar and her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Jr. She loved spending time with friends and family; she especially cherished the times she got together with all of her cousins and any time spent with her grandson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will truly be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Gould, in infancy; and her parents, Bernard "Benny" and Florence, nee Klingenhegan, Switala.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her two sons, Raymond (Cassie) Rettle and Joseph Rettle, both of Belleville, Illinois; her grandson, Dylan Rettle; a sister, Barbara (Terry) Schneider of O'Fallon, Illinois, a niece and nephew, and many cousins and friends.

Memorials are appreciated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.lakeviewfuneralhm.com.

My lifelong friendship with Patty began when our World War Two fathers met and became friends, married the love of their life, and had children. I have many a fond memory of Pat and her family coming out to our farm for Sunday BBQ's, putting on cheerleading exhibitions, dressing up as nuns, and putting on skits/plays for our parents to enjoy. My husband, Jerry, knew Patty as well when attending the Teenage Center in Belleville for dances, living in Swansea and working at Memorial Hospital.
In our adulthood our mothers and us daughters formed a group called "The Rat Pack." We had so much fun attending various events and just sitting around the table eating good food and laughing so hard that our cheeks hurt and tears streaming down our cheeks.
Pat had some trials and tribulations throughout her life; but she always perceviered and came out stronger than ever. I truly admired her for that....
My deepest sympathy to her two sons, Ray and Joe, and her sister Barb. Pat was so happy when she became a grandma. She never hesitated to talk about her grandson and shared pictures of him for everyone to see. He was the light of her life.
Jerry and I will miss you with all our hearts. Rest in peace.
Your loving Rat Pack buddy,
Bonnie (Louis) & Jerry Sowels
