Emanuel Kladis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2017.

Emanuel "Mike" Kladis, one of the last of the Greatest Generation and a dearly loved man by his
family and friends, passed away at 96 years of age peacefully in the early hours of
November 15, 2017.
Born in Granger, Utah he grew up working at the Growers Market for the Kladis Produce
Company.

He enlisted in the Army October 1942. He was a truck driver with the 30th Infantry Division,
known as "Old Hickory". On "D Day" he drove his truck onto Omaha Beach. He carried
personnel, ammo and food for the troops and did so throughout France, Belgium and the
Netherlands. In 1944, he fought in Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes
Forest and the Battle of the Bulge, a total of 282 days of combat. He received a Bronze Star,
Combat Infantry Badge and, in 2012, was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal.
Upon his return, he married Ruby Shuput, the love of his life. They had one son, Mike, and built
a wonderful life together. Through hard work and perseverance, they built (by hand) their dream getaway - a cabin in Pine Mountains, where there were many a Saturday night of Lawrence Welk, Hee Haw and, of course, martinis followed by artichokes and steaks. We hold precious memories of our time there together.

He became a Master Mason in 1978 and later a member of El Kalah Shrine where he helped
raise funds for Shriners Hospital for Children for 39 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 2014 after 66 years of marriage. Also siblings
Mary, Helen Jerry and Gus.

He is survived by his son Mike (Kris), grandsons Stephen and Rick (Kristin), great grandson
Micah, sisters Katie, Cookie, brother Nick.
We thank Coventry and Hearts for Hospice for their help in our care of Dad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox
Church (5335 So. Highland Dr) at 11:00 am. Visitation one hour prior. Internment following at
Wasatch Lawn (3401 So Highland Dr).

Our prayers go out to you during this extremely difficult time. So very many fond memories of Mike and Ruby in their many visits to Point Reyes. Dearly loved by our parents their friends and of course our family. They will be truly missed. I have every reason to believe Dad, Don and Mike are up in heaven catching up and having a cocktail together.
Love always,
Linda and Matt Caramagno (Rodoni)
