Mozelle Simon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2017.

Mozelle Lavonia Simon was born on Mother's Day, May 12, 1935, in Kilgore, Texas to Russell and Malissa Howard. She went home to be with the Lord, whom she loved, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was preceded in death by her grandson Kosby Johnson; great-grandson Kentray Waldon; mother, Malissa Clark; and husband of 30 years, Rev. Thomas J. Simon.
Her early years were spent in Kilgore where she received Christ at the gentle age of five. The family then moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where she graduated high school. She attended Kansas University briefly and then received a Bachelor's of Science degree from Midwestern State University. She went on to complete a Master's degree and a Mid-Management certificate both at East Texas State University. After 29 years as an Educator, she retired in 1992 as a Principal in the Wichita Falls Independent School District.
When she moved to Wichita Falls, she joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert L. Castle. She moved her membership, joining her mother in becoming a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James O. Bradford. Later in life, she returned to Mt. Pleasant Baptist church under the direction of Rev. Dr. Robert M. Castle.
On July 14, 1981, she married the late Rev. Thomas J. Simon and joined Shiloh Baptist Church. Serving the Lord was her passion. She loved working in the church and devoted her life to helping others. While at Shiloh, she served as the Director of Music, Baptist Training Union Teacher, Adult Sunday School and Mission teacher. Under her Missionary work, she founded their food pantry.
Mozelle led people to Christ by using her personal testimony about what her life was like with Him.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Renee Jeffery, Dallas, TX and Sheila Johnson, Wichita Falls, TX; six grandchildren, Dion (Doranner) Legington, Lancaster, TX, Kenyon (Sophia) Johnson, Carrollton, TX, Karmonn (Rashaan) Jackson, Wichita Falls, TX, Kevah (Charles) Osborne, Wichita Falls, TX, Kastyn and Kelaya Johnson, Wichita Falls, TX; eight great-grandchildren Taylor Pretlow, KaShai Johnson, Chandler Pretlow, Kiara Johnson, Kwintin Johnson, Kya Byrd, Kwinc Byrd, and Kylee Osborne; a sister-cousin, Cora Lee Reed; a special daughter Cecelia Jean Tucker; a cousin, Rev. Angus (Shirley) Thompson; a special son, Otis (Shana) Polk, III ; two foster children, Jacqueline and Rayford McKinley; a God-child, A'Zaia Roberts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
