On November 18, 2017, Joseph Vernon Johnson born September 7, 1944 to the late William Joseph Johnson and Frances Hill Johnson; went to that great reunion.
He was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church since 1954. During his life he served on the church board of Trustees, as president of the cemetery committee, as Historian and as Lay Leader.
In 1971, he began his gospel ministry through singing. His mission in life was to spread the word of God through music to areas across the United States.
He retired from Johnson Lumber after working for many years. He worked at McMillan Funeral Home where he comforted families and sang at many funerals.
Joseph V. Johnson was a community leader. He was instrumental in establishing the New Site water system as well as served as president for the New Site water board for several years.
Joe was actively serving as president of Woodmen Life Chapter 60 in Booneville as well as on the Board of Directors of Woodmen Life North Mississippi Fraternal Association Incorporated. He also served two year terms as past president of chapter 60, musician of North Mississippi jurisdiction and as a greeter.
He served as a Boy Scout leader and a school board member. Joe was an avid Ole Miss fan, and enjoyed taking his great grandson, Brayden, to squirrel camp which he had attended for the past sixty years.
A Celebration of Life for Joseph Vernon Johnson will be at Siloam United Methodist Church 2:00pm Tuesday November 21, 2017. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 12pm until service time at the church.
He is survived by wife, Joyce Holley Johnson; two daughters, Melanie Johnson Kabban and her husband Emil and Valerie Johnson Arnold; four granddaughters, Dara Wotherspoon and her husband Zach, Amber Riddle, Kaitlyn Kabban and Emily Kabban; one brother, John Johnson and wife Barbara; two great grandchildren, Brayden Riddle and Sofia Wotherspoon; four nephews, Jason Johnson and wife Jacinda, Jeremiah Johnson and wife Jennifer, Rickey Holley and wife Sharon and Wayne Holley; two nieces, Blakeley Johnson and Tina Holley Suddieth and several great nephews and nieces.
Preceded in death by William Joseph Johnson, Frances Johnson, and baby sister who died at birth, father in law Voyd Dillard Holley, mother in law Annis Beatrice Holley, and brother in law Johnny James Holley.
