Cathryn “Tee” Philibert Fontana, age 91, a native of New Orleans and resident of Metairie since 1958, entered into Eternal Rest on November 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Charles Joseph "C.J." Fontana, Sr., her parents, Oswald R. “Bunny” Philibert, Sr. and Catherine Cather Philibert, her brother Oswald R. “Bunny” Philibert, Jr. and her sister Marianne P. Stigler. She is survived by her son Charles J. Fontana, Jr. and his wife Pamela B. Fontana, her son William "Bill" P. Fontana, Sr. and his wife Dianne F. Fontana, and her grandchildren Christine P. Fontana and her husband Paul R. Wegmann, Charles J. "Treg" Fontana, III, Stacie F. Brownell and her husband Scott D. Brownell, William "Billy" P. Fontana, Jr., and Benjamin C. Fontana and his wife Tiffany, and her four great-grandsons, Jake, Griffin, Walker and Beau, and her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Cathryn graduated from McDonogh No. 28 High School in New Orleans. She adored children and in the 1960s established her own day care center located on Bonnabel Boulevard in Metairie. She was a teacher at St. Pius X in New Orleans and at St. Louis King of France School in Metairie. She also worked at and retired from AT&T. Cathryn brought comfort and compassion to the sick and suffering as a longtime volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was devout in her Catholic Faith and regularly attended St. Angela Merici Church in Metairie and St. Louis King of France Church, where she delighted in bringing the offertory gifts to the alter at the Saturday Vigil Mass with her dear friend, Carol Dessens. She was a member of the AARP Lakeshore Chapter 3902. Cathryn was fond of animals and she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. Cathryn’s dedication to her family was profound, and above all she cherished being in the company of her loved ones and her dogs, Max and Minnie. Special thanks to Patio Drugs, Dr. G. Dodd Denton at Ochsner, Allene McCann and Guardian Angel Hospice, and to Cathryn’s amazing caretakers, Jennifer, Mae, Charles, Pam, Treg, Paul, her devoted granddaughter Christine, and Debbie, who went above and beyond the call of duty to shower Cathryn with dignity, joy and love every day. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 11am to 1pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., and the Funeral Mass at 1pm.
