(Meier) Carlin Compton was born in Dixon, IA on February 6, 1920 to Rudy Meier and Adalla Hesse. She attended Plainview School. She had one sibling Dorothy Gillmore and two half sisters Phyllis Knudsen and Nancy Tarling and one half brother Michael Meier. Her mother, Adalla, died of the Spanish Flu when she was 8 days old and her grandmother, Doria Hesse raised her and Dorothy until she was 6 years old. Her father, Rudy, remarried and she was raised on a farm outside of Eldridge, IA. On September 26, 1940, she married Herbert Carlin and they had two children: Nancy Slyter Kopf and Cheryl "Cheri" Fahrenkrog. Her grandchildren included: Jaimison Slyter, Lorraine Misener, Tara (Tony) Claypool, Tim (Lisa) Fahrenkrog and Randy (Shanna) Fahrenkrog; Her great grandchildren included: Shannon (Danny) Long, Heather Gregg, Hannah (Gabriel) Mesa, Michael (Stephanie) Coleman, Krystina (Anthony) Swaim, Nickolas Coleman, Anthony Claypool, Josh (Shawnna) Fahrenkrog, Landry (Chilsai) Fahrenkrog, and Faith (Zach Morgan) Fahrenkrog and numerous great-great grandchildren. Herbert passed away in 1966 after 26 years of marriage. Celeste did housekeeping part time. After becoming a young widow, she later became a dental assistant where she met Athy Compton, a widower and a patient, whom she married in 1967 and was happily married for 43 years; having gained stepchildren: Michael (Judy) Compton and Sheila (Don) Rostad. She also gained step grandchildren: Joe (Melissa) Compton, M.D., Lyn (Charles) Stoltenow, D.V.M. and Jack Compton with numerous step great grandchildren. She was known as a wonderful cook and pie baker and enjoyed serving many meals to family and friends. She loved to draw and some of her paintings, while in Memory Care, were sold at The Figge to raise money for Alzheimers. She loved Jesus and her family and centered her life around them. She loved to crochet, play cards, travel and never missed going to church. She was known for visiting the sick and ministering to those in need. She was stricken with Alzheimer's and spent two years at Senior Star Memory Care in Davenport and almost three years at the The Alverno in Clinton. Everyone who ever knew her, loved her and she loved everyone. She was tired and ready to go home and be with her Lord. She will be greatly missed! Those in loving memory preceded her in death were her parents, sisters, both husbands, Herbert, Athy, and her daughter Nancy Kopf.

Celeste attended my church, Westside Assembly of God, she always had a smile and always greeted those with a hello. Beautiful lady. Sincere sympathy to the family.

Our sincere sympathy and prayers to our cousin Cheri and all of the family of our Aunt Celeste. She was my mom's friend since they were teens, and I cherish my happy memories of growing up next door to her, Uncle Herbie, Nancy, and Cheri during my childhood. She was always happy and loving, creative and hard-working, never complaining or saying a bad word about anyone. After her long battle with Alzheimer's, may flights of angels sing her to her eternal rest with Our Lord.
