Carl “Smitty” Ray Smith, 81, of Kellys Creek passed away unexpectedly at home on November 29, 2017.
Carl was a retired Supervising Operator with DuPont, and an Airforce Veteran. Carl served proudly in the Air National Guard 130th Airlift Wing with 40 years service. He was a property manager at Appleseed Johnny’s of Frogs Creek, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Carl enjoyed farming, bailing hay and raising livestock.
Preceded in death by his parents, Howard Cecil and Gladys Virginia Lucas Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Dans Smith at home; children, Tammy Gilkerson (Ron) of Loveland, Colorado, and Dale Smith of Kellys Creek; brother, Donnie Smith (Lela) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandchildren, Tyler Gilkerson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Adam Gilkerson of Thornton, Colorado, Miranda Gilkerson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Kincy Smith of Kellys Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11am Monday, December 4, 2017 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
A gathering of family and friends will be 6-8pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the funeral home.

I loved my Uncle Smitty!! He always had a smile on his face and had a hug for you I hated to get this call, Aunt Bob , Tammy, Dale Ray so sorry for yr loss. He will be missed! Prayers for peace and comfort. Y'all will be in my prayers. Love y'all so much. I wish we could be there but. We went To dr today Roy has flu and I'm sick. We just buried Roy's mother Tuesday from an automobile accident. RIP Uncle Smitty. We love you.
