Winifred Therrell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2017.

Winifred (Winkie) Silcox Therrell, age 95 was born on Nov. 2, 1922 and died on Nov. 28, 2017, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Stephen and Joanne Copland Silcox and her brother Ernest Jr. She is survived by her brother Luther Silcox and sons Bradford Leon, Jr (Carolyn), Thomas Stephen (Ann), James Arthur (Johna), and Timothy Silcox (Cathy) Therrell. Winkie received great joy from her 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Born in Tampa, Florida, where her father (from Wales) and her mother (from Scotland) had met shortly after WWI, Winkie began a life that would take her to a number of cities across the South while her father pursued a career as a civil engineer. Eventually graduating from Kosciusko High School where her father was working on the Natchez Trace, Winkie went to Washington, D.C. to work for the FBI. There she would meet her husband to be, Bradford Leon Therrell. After Bradford joined the Navy to become a Naval Aviator, the two were married October 20, 1943, eventually moving to Bagdad, Florida (Pensacola area), where their first son was born. After WWII, they lived in Florence and then Jackson, Mississippi where their other 3 sons were born.

Winkie was a loving and caring mother who enjoyed flower arranging and ceramics. Winkie and Bradford opened a ceramic shop in Dallas, Tx in the late1960s, which was her passion for the next 20 years. Following Bradford's retirement from Mutual of Omaha, the two returned to Ridgeland, Ms. She and Bradford moved to Trace Point in Clinton, where they lived until Bradford's death in 2014. She resided at Wyoming Springs Assisted Living in Round Rock, Texas until her death.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Dr., Jackson, MS 39206
