Charles Edwin (Ed) Shetterly was born in Warren County, Hartford, Iowa on December 25, 1925
to Harry Ralph and Edith Bell [Cain] Shetterly, and departed this life on September 30,2017 at
Brookdale Memory Care Center in Mesa, Arizona.
His parents moved to a farm around DeSoto, Iowa when he was two. There he spent his twelve
years of schooling. He loved school and was in vocal music. He also played trumpet in the High
School Band. Edwin loved the school sports of basketball, baseball, and track and was involved
in each of them.
After graduation he worked for a grocery chain in Winterset, Iowa where he met his bride. On
September 8, 1946 he was married to Evelyn Marie [Douglas] at Capitol Hill Christian Church in
Des Moines, Iowa. They were the parents of four children: Maxine, Carol, Patricia, and Charles
Edwin Jr.
Edwin was baptized at Capitol Hill Christian Church on March 18, 1956.
Edwin was active in Church work while in Colorado in different Churches. He and Evelyn were
instrumental in helping start a new church in the Littleton area.
Edwin worked in the grocery business for nearly nine years, and then went to work for
Anderson-Erickson Dairy in Des Moines as a wholesale milk salesman. In 1962 he moved his
family to Littleton, Colorado where he was also involved in sales work.
Edwin and Evelyn liked to travel; they were in Hawaii, Spain, Aruba, and a number of places in
the United States. They had even joined a flying club out of Denver, Colorado and took a
number of special trips with that group.
After retirement they bought a winter home in Florence, Arizona in 1989. In 1993 they moved
to Florence permanently.
Edwin loved the out-of-doors work- manicuring the lawn and doing gardening. He gave away a
lot of the fruits of his harvest.
He never saw a stranger- no matter where he was!
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Edwin has twelve Grandchildren, twenty-three Great-Grandchildren, and 10 Great -Great -
Grandchildren.
Edwin leaves the following to celebrate his life, wife Evelyn, Daughters Maxine and husband
John of Apex, North Carolina, Carol and husband Jeffrey of Littleton, Colorado, Patricial and
husband Dan of Monticello, Illinois, and Edwin Jr. of Chandler, Arizona.
