Good morning Paige. It will with great sadness that I learned of Mike's passing yesterday. My new neighbor from Crozet told me. I remember so many good times with Mike, from playing basketball together on the Wintergreen team to putting a room addition on your home, to my German Shepard nipping one of Mike's US Marshall buddies, to volleyball at Shannon Farm, to shooting with him in your backyard range. Mike was a genuine good guy who accepted me as I am. He was a rare breed of MAN! I feel blessed to have crossed paths with him. I pray you are doing well, Paige. Sincerely, Mark Labadie

Page, we are truly sorry for your loss of sweet Mike. He was such a kind & generous man and he loved his four legged children. We will always cherish the pumpkins that he carved us of his beloved labs, Ginger, Sandy & his cat, Jenga. And of course my Pomeranian pumpkin that he carved me that I keep up all year long. If you need anything please let us know. Sincerely, your friends at Animal Health Care Center

His larger than life personality, infectious smile & service to others is what made him a great addition to VSP, RMC, Virginia sporting events & his community. I learned much from him when I joined RMC & enjoyed having him as one of my go-to folks. May your faith, family & friends provide you with the support, comfort & peace needed to see you through this storm.

As a sophomore at WCHS back in 1972, I sat next to Mike in band. He could actually play the trombone, l could not and he continually reminded me of that fact. My most vivid memories of Mike was as one of the better football players at the school. To me he was Mr. Football. I can still see Page wearing his letter jacket cheering him on. The song may be gone, but the melody keeps playing on. My thoughts are with you Page.

Page, my heart sank when hearing the sad news. You are in my thoughts. I can see the impact Mike had on so many when seeing all these beautiful messages. I have several lessons i remember Mike telling me like not sitting with my back to a door or not braking if going to hit a deer...these are small silly things to think of but i think of you guys regularly because of these tips. Please know that there are a ton of people sending love your way!

Mike was one of those rare people you never really forget. I met Mike in the early 90's in Nelson County and we would often talk about "the job." His many outlooks that became lessons on how to do your job and treat people have stayed with me for many years and have made my job more enjoyable and made me more professional.
For Page and all of Mike's friends and family I wish you god's peace and blessings in this hard time.

Paige, I am so sorry for your loss. Yes as many have said Mike was a great Trooper and gave a great deal to the VSP. I didn't know Mike that much as a Trooper or work with him - I just new him as Mike, a man of great stature, big laugh, strong ethics and a heart bigger than his stature. A man who liked to line dance and one that loved you. A man who was a good friend of my wife, Lisa, of whom she thought the world of. May you find peace in your fond memories and the love that you guys shared. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

At a loss for words. Mrs Bowman I can't express enough how much Mike played a role in my life from being a young high school student until entering the VA State Police and even running for sheriff . Mike was always a phone call away. He taught me so much in my early years in law enforcement. I enjoyed instructing firearms with him and just listening to his wisdom. He was bigger than life except when I picked on him. Another great man gone to soon. God bless you.

I instructed firearms with Mike in the early 2000's. We had fun, in fact, I look back on those times as some of the happiest in my career; the main reason is because of Mike. As a young trooper, I learned a lot from him, not just about being a trooper, but life in general. Mike was a great mentor to me and I will never forget that. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I am so sorry to hear about Mike passing away. I met Mike on the basketball court in the early nineties. We were playing on opposite teams in a recreational basketball league, he set up in the lane to take a charge and I ran into him pretty hard and he hit the floor. I helped him up and he told me I was the only man that ever knocked him down and didn't go to jail for it. We laughed and became friends. It was always great to see Mike and connect with him. RIP Mike.
