Mom,
Your funeral and burial service was beautiful! Friends, relatives, and us were very surprised and touched by your lovely voice. I love those songs. So delighted that Bong San and his family included your signing in the slideshow. Kenneth played the piano and Christopher sang the songs that you loved so well together. Sor Kheng, Bong San, and Chris did a terrific job. Bonnary, Ben, and Julie shared only a tiny part of their memories of you due to time limited. I am sure you had a good laugh and cry with them too. Roeun, Lee, Kenneth, Chris, Mike, Ben, Kosal, and Alex did a great job carrying your casket.

We are so proud of you, Mom for planning your funeral and burial service in advance. You made it very easy for us to carry out your wish.

I want to thank my husband, brothers, sister, sisters-in-law, children, nieces and nephews for their help and support for each other as well as their understanding and being very kind to me.

Love always,
Nara

Our mother, Mrs. Keo Vanna, also known as Mrs. Tei Ly Hour, was born on April 10, 1930 in Pursat Province, Cambodia. Mom was Chinese and her parents were Mr. Kork Leng and Mrs. Tan Pearl. She had seven siblings. In 1950, when she was 20 years old, she married our beloved father, Mr. Sok Ken.

Both of our parents were Chinese teachers. They taught Mandarin Chinese. Their happy marriage was cut short due to the death of our father in 1960. He left behind his beautiful 30-year old wife and five young children. My brother, San was 9; I was 7; my brother, Cham was 5; my sister, Nary was 3; and my youngest brother, Lee was just 1 year old. Mom sacrificed so much, working day and night, and never complained. She provided food and clothing for the whole family, and sent us all to school. She made sure that we all had an education. Mom always taught us to be honest, polite, and care for each other. After our father past, mom did not remarry. She worried that if she married again, her new husband may not love and care about us like our father did. Unbeknownst to her, none of her pursuers would have had a chance to marry our mom. My siblings and I chased them all away.

By the time the Pol Pot regime collapsed, I had been in the United States for almost 4 years already, while my mom and my four siblings were in Cambodia. Our oldest brother, San led the family from Cambodia to the Kai A Dang Refugee Center located on the border of Thailand. My husband, Sambonn Lek and I sponsored my mother and all of my siblings, and everyone was together again in 1980.

Since then, my mother and the family have lived happily adding more family members while prospering along the way. Our mother was a very kind and caring lady. She was always concerned about our well-being; up to the day she passed. Since 1976, she had become a mother-in-law, a grandmother, and a great grandmother.

With San's suggestion, guidance, and acceptance of God, our mother converted to Christianity in 1988. Mom always listened, obeyed, and was a very good daughter to God.

God's call came on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, for our mother to join God. She dies peacefully at her residence and leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, and relatives with many wonderful memories for us to cherish.

Mom, we miss you dearly and love you wholeheartedly. Please rest in peace.
