Alice "Anne" O'Hara Miller, 84, of Houston, passed away with a host of angels on Monday, December 4, 2017. Born in her beloved small town of Groesbeck, Texas on April 19, 1933, Anne was the middle child, of three, born to John Weldon O'Hara and Hinchey Neyland O'Hara.
Anne graduated from Reagan High School with the class of 1950, where she served her high school and community through many organizations and clubs: Y-Teens '49, C.S.U. '49, Junior Class Treasurer '49, Senior Class Cabinet member '50, Red Coat Drill Team '48-'50, Swiss Flag '50, F.H.A member '48 - '50, F.H.A. Secretary '50.
Anne married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Franklin Miller Junior, on June 6, 1952 at the First Baptist Church of the Heights; followed by a cake and punch reception. With a husband in the United States Navy, she traveled to live with him while he was stationed at a naval base in Panama City until 1954. After returning home, she enrolled and attended business school and a typing program for women in Houston. Being an educated woman, she entered the working world as an administrative assistant, where she would excel and succeed in her lifelong career.
In her youth, she was known for her quick wit and savvy style, and became a progressive woman of her time as one of the first women in Houston to wear pant suits to work; for which she was even featured in an article in the Chronicle. Anne is what one would describe as "one of the good ones", she was a devoted mother who took pride in everything her three sons did. Her family was by far her crowning joy and greatest of accomplishments.
Anne was a charismatic, bold, and hilariously funny woman. As a devout Christian, scarcely a morning went by where you wouldn't find her at her kitchen table engrossed in scripture. She was a fierce lover of all things football, family, friends, good food, and Christmas time.
Anne will be dearly missed by her three sons, Frank III, Michael (wife Tina), Mark (wife Mariel); along with her nine grandchildren; James, Alison, Rachel, Allie, Kirby, Nolan, Madison, Erin and Kendall; great grandchildren; Elle and Reece, and sister, Davidene "Mickie" Ely.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 in the chapel at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood, with Rev. Dr. Larry Bertrand and Rev. Dr. Duane Brooks officiating.
