My wife and I met Father Joseph at MD Anderson early in 2017; then later in the year when he, his brother, and father returned, as did we. We had prayers together, hugs together, and cheerful conversations. I was saddened to learn of his passing. We came back to MD Anderson this May 2018, for my wife's checkup and gazed at the high stool/chair where he and his dad sat the evening we met.

Dear George & Cindy,
I wanted to sent my belated & deepest condolences in Joseph's passing. Joseph and I met in our first Air Force assignment together in San Antonio, and he was a special friend to me (and my family) ever since. What a remarkable human being he was--of all the special things about him, I will particularly remember his passion for life, his sense of humor, his loyalty and his concern for others. We were fortunate enough to have him to our home for dinner in the DC area in February or March 2016, before he became sick--and what a fantastic time we had catching up. I will miss this remarkable man and dear friend for the rest of my life, but am comforted in knowing with certainty he's with his Lord and Savior. Godspeed to you both.

My husband and I met Father Cazenavette at MD Anderson after he said Mass in the chapel. He was so kind and caring, and he explained that he was a patient receiving treatment. My husband has leukemia and a patient at MD Anderson. It is such a blessing to be able to go to Mass during a difficult day. It helps us remember that we are not alone.

I am so sorry to hear that Father Joseph has passed away. I first met him some 6 years ago in St Marks Venice while he was on his way to a meeting. He was a pleasure to talk too and i felt happy at meeting him that day. I have not met him in personal since but enjoyed the emails that we exchanged. I was so sad when he told me of his illness while all the time hoping and praying he would get well again.
I feel sure he will be greatly missed as I feel that others like me will know it was so good to have known him.
Very kind regards, Rouhi

I am very sorry to hear of the Father's passing. What a very wonderful and special man whose very presence carried the love and light of Christ everywhere he went. I only worked with him briefly through my work on the Hill, but he instantaneously had a reputation among our staff as such a bright light and someone we very much looked forward to meeting with again. May today he be reunited with his Creator and Savior, fully knowing the Faith we place our hope in. May his family and friends be comforted in this time of grieving and looking forward in hopeful expectation of seeing him again.

I was in Joe's small group section in law school. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was always kind and generous--he loaned me a pair of weightlifting gloves shortly before we graduated that I never had to chance to return to him, so although we didn't keep up with each other I thought of him often over the years.

I just learned of Joseph's passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Joseph and I were buddies in law school. I noticed in May when I looked him up in our class directory that he had become a priest. I'd been meaning to call him and reconnect and am saddened that I procrastinated. Joseph was a great man. Joseph and you will be in my prayers. God bless you, John Lynch (Arlington, VA)

I was so sorry to hear Fr. Joseph had passed away. I got to know him briefly when he assisted my congressman with religious liberty legislation a few years ago. As a staffer, I thoroughly enjoyed giving father and some friends from Louisiana a tour of the Capitol. He left quite an impression on mein part because I ended up attending his alma mater, the University of Virginia School of Law, but most of all because he was such a genuine person. I am truly grateful for his kindness. Rest in peace.

Dear George and Cindy,

My Dearest George & Cindy,
I had the privilege & honor of working with Joseph during his years in the Air Force prior to his calling to the Priesthood. He was an amazing person, a terrific attorney, and he was beloved by his peers and the clients he so staunchly defended. I know that I am a better person for having Joseph in my life...please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your son...a loss no parent is supposed to mourn. My heart aches for you...and I hope you know that Joseph is 'home' with our God.
Love, Dawn

Joseph was my beacon of light and source of strength during a very dark time in my life. His faith always inspired me and being in his presence was like being with an angel on earth. Truly, he was the most faithful servant of God I've ever known and I do feel in my heart that over the years, we will continue to hear about all of the lives that he's touch...which will utimately lead to his canonization. I'm so blessed that God allowed me to be in a family like his and I'm a better person today because of Joseph. Thank you for enriching my life and for reminding us to plan our days around prayer. God bless you Joseph, as you have blessed mine.

My heart is so sorrowful with the loss of Fr. Joseph. I am shedding tears of joy for him, and tears of sorrow for myself and all the people who loved him. He always gave his undivided attention in conversation and his smile was heavenly. I always told him he looked just like my oldest son, who is the same age. I will always hold you in my heart, my dear Priest. My prayers have been with you and your family and will continue. Until we meet again, Fr. Joseph, please intercede for us. Please give our Mother Mary a kiss for me.

Our sincere condolences to the Cazenavette family throughout this problematical time. Father Joseph (a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and to others, a true colleague, an enthusiastic priest and respected constituent of the Archdiocese) will be truly missed by all who were providential to have met Joseph during his short stay with us on earth (especially by his immediate family). Joseph will unquestionably be along side of God (in Heaven) assisting the heavenly father in protecting and rescuing our souls. Joseph had touched many during his journey here on earth, and had left his legacy for all to remember. Joseph will remain in our hearts and prayers eternally; and we ask Joseph to continue to watch over us and pray for all of us. God Bless and God Speed Father Joseph.

I will miss Fr. Joseph dearly. I had the honor of working alongside him at the USCCB in the Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth and always enjoyed his kindness, faithfulness, and his stories. He loved his vocation, his family, his work, and above all, the merciful Jesus who guided his every step. Our loss is heaven's gain. May he rest now in peace. I included a moment of joy in this remembrance, taken from a staff dinner where we celebrated the gift of his life on his birthday.

It was a privilege and gift to be counted as a colleague and friend of Fr. Joseph. He served the Church and Catholic Bishops' Conference so well, with great faith and courage. Above all, he was a faithful priest who modeled what it means to put the Lord Jesus Christ first, to let Him be at the center of our life. On behalf of the USCCB Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, our prayers are with the Cazenavette family and all those who mourn. We also send our thanks to both the family and the Archdiocese for sharing Fr. Joseph with us. Fr. Joseph, we miss you--may you rest in the peace and joy of the Lord!

I am grateful to have known Fr. Joseph and worked side by side with him since 2014. His focus was always Jesus Christ and his Church; he dedicated himself to celebrating Mass and hearing confessions on his "off time" while working hard with his "lawyer brain" during the workday. He consistently reminded us Who we work for. We miss him already and rely on his intercession.

We will never forget Fr. Joseph at St. Edward the Confessor. The ways he touched us are too numerous to count. He prayed for me to have my daughter and jokingly said I should have named her "Joseph" after him. He was so spiritual but had an adorable funny, clever side. Your family is in our daily prayers. We are so grateful to have had the privilege to know him and to be spiritually fed by him. We mourn your loss and ours, but are so happy he is no longer suffering. Father Joseph, a wonderful person and an outstanding priest, who taught me many lessons through his homilies and book read conversations at St. Edward the Confessor Parish (2005-09) and through his personal witness. I prayed for his healing, which he has now received (for to die in Christ is gain and eternal life with no pain) and will continue to pray for him during the Sunday Rosary before Mass. The few days before I heard of his passing, I had inquired about him and I found out that he was in hospice care. I thought, "The Lord must have great plans for this Holy Priest and, as much as good as he would do here on Earth with us, he will serve the Lord better in Heaven. So, just as St. Therese showers her roses down from Heaven, I'm sure he will come to mind often and we will "hear" from our beloved Father Joseph in his own mystical ways. I love you and I'm so thankful to be one of your spiritual children. I want to send my sincere condolences to Father Joseph's family and friends and assure you of my prayers for you also.

I had the privilege to teach Fr. Joseph while he was a student at St. John Paul II High School, and he always remained close to my heart. He was a very special young man, and a wonderful priest, and I am sure God will be using him for very important matters from now on. My prayers are not so much for him, because I know he is enjoying God's presence and love already, but for his parents and siblings. Fr. Joseph will continue to be there for us. No doubt he's already hanging out up in heaven with Mother Mary, who he loves so much and our Lord, Jesus Christ. That's the only thing that gives me any consolation at the loss of this incredibly holy priest is knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's in heaven. Rest in Peace, Fr. Joseph.

I am so grateful for having shared a stroll along my path of life with Father Joseph, all too briefly as it turned out. Have known Joseph since he was in diapers. What a great man. Joseph was very smart & very spiritual. He loved and labored on behalf of God for many years. His death was a surprise, since I always thought he would receive a miracle. But, now I am sure he is in heaven with his Heavenly Father. May God grant Joseph eternal peace & his dear family consolation & blessings. May Joseph's soul & the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God Rest In Peace. Amen.

Father Joseph was a good friend of mine - we served US Bishops together at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. He and I also shared other 'links,' including service in the Air Force, a connection to Louisiana (my first Air Force duty station was at England AFB, LA where I flew A-10s from 1983-86) and devotion to the Divine Mercy of Our Lord. I loved being his altar server when he presided over Holy Mass because of his reverence for the liturgy and Blessed Sacrament. I have missed his presence here in Washington for the past year and a half, but look forward to our future reunion :-) May God rest the soul of Father Joseph and provide comfort in this trying time for the Cazenavette family. Sincerely, Mr. Robert Yates

What a wonderful and spirit filled man Fr. Joseph was. He had such a great sense of humor and all of us at Our Lady of the Lake Church loved working with him. Fr. Joseph would send all of the staff ladies flowers for our birthdays even after he had moved out of our Parish. We loved him! May he rest in peace.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Cazenavette, your son was such a kind and wonderful person and the most reverent priest I've ever met. My son had many conversations with him while he was at OLL and says Fr. Joseph was the kindest priest he has ever talked to. Please know that I have prayed for him all through his cancer battle, amazed at his courage and faith and I will continue to pray for his soul. What an impact he had on so many lives, he was truly a gift to us all. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your son.

It was a great privilege and honor to have met father Joseph at the Basilica of the immaculate conception about three years ago. I will always remember him for all the courage he gave me throughout our friendship. I will miss him dearly but I know that he's in better hands now and I hope to see him again in heaven one day.

How blessed we were to have had Fr. Joseph in our lives. He is and will continue to be sorely missed. He is greatly loved by so many. We can only imagine how much he is missed by his loving family. Our most sincere condolences to the Caznavette family. Please know that you are in our prayers for peace and consolation during your time of mourning. May Our Lord bless you with the peace that surpasses all understanding. May Our Blessed Mother wrap each of you in her mantle of her maternal love. Your beloved Fr. Joseph must be, no doubt, interceding for you now. I pray that he is interceding for each of us.
Rest In Peace, Fr. Joseph. May Eternal Light shine upon your holy soul.

Fr. Joseph, I remembered you back in high school at Pope John Paul 11 in Slidell as a fine person and you went on to continue God's gift of helping others and being there for so many people. Rest in peace as you fought a tough battle but not once did you seem scared. You kept your faith the whole time. God Bless you. Tell Mr. "G" hello from all the Jaguars.

Fr. Joseph was one of the most priestly priests we have ever known! We first met him when he was a seminarian at a Life in the Spirit Seminar and we have admired him in all the years since then. It was a privilege to often be at Mass with Fr. Joseph in recent months at the Christian Brothers chapel. On his 50th birthday he preached a beautiful homily about the Dedication of St.John Lateran. He was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and we could not have imagined he would pass so soon. I remember hearing him say, "I've lived on the Southshore and on the Northshore and as nice as they are, I don't want to live there for all eternity." All of us have gained a powerful intercessor in heaven.
Our love and prayers go to all his family and friends.
