Rosemarie D. Hall departed life peacefully at home on December 9th; she was 89 years old. A lifelong resident of James City County, she spent all but her final 12 years on her family property in the Grove area of the county.
For decades in the mid-1900's, she owned the structure that served as a landmark country store for the local people. She leased the building that was variously operated as Burnett's Market, TT's Market and Hall's Market. She was often seen working in the store and had many friends in the community. At that time, this part of the county was dominated by several large farms and was sparsely populated with the exception of the residential area, more commonly known as Grove.
Her property was located directly across from Carter's Grove Plantation, an historic site that was open to the public at that time. With her late husband Bill, they managed the land as a small farm and had a half dozen cottages that they rented out.
She and Bill were lifelong members of Lebanon Church of Christ but also attended Seaford Church for a period of time. For many years in later life, she and Bill were volunteers at Heritage Humane Society and helped organize many of their fund drives. She loved all living creatures, but was especially fond of her little dog, Lulu.
Rose is survived by her three children; Rose Ann Schueler (Jon) of Sacramento; Sandy Hall of Bakersfield; and Rick Hall of Williamsburg. She also has two granddaughters and three great-granddaughters from Rose Ann and Jon Schueler.
A visitation will be Wednesday, December 13th from 3-6pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The service will be Thursday, December 14th at 1pm, also at Nelsen Funeral Home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 (www.heritagehumanesociety.org). Online condolences for the family may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.

My deepest condolences to my dear friend Rick, and his sisters, Rose Ann and Sandy, and their families. I first met the Halls in 1982 when I moved to Williamsburg as a young military wife. I knew no one, then I met the Halls! I began working at Halls Market and was there until it burned several years later. That was the beginning of becoming a part of their family. I love this family dearly, as does many in the community. Mrs. Hall will be missed, but is now with Mr. Hall and my sweet friend, Juanita Hall.
Love,

I have wonderful memories of growing up next door to Rose, Bill, Rose Ann, Ricky, and Sandy. Sandy and I were best buddies! My brother and Rick even had a "yell" (sounded like Tarzan) that they would use when they were outside and ready to get into mischief. Rose always kept a candy drawer that we all really appreciated and visited often. And she always had a puppy for us to play with. Rose, Bill, and my parents were always there for us. That's the best gift a parent can give a child. We felt safe, loved, and carefree. Life was good. Rose was a big part of those memories. So, thank you Rose for the love and memories we all cherish. Rose Ann, Ricky, and Sandy, My prayers are with you.
Love, Nancy (Smith) Clendenning

The things that you remember .... I went to Sandy's house to play when I was a little girl and her mom served me the best cream of wheat that I have ever had - butter, cinnamon and milk. I remember it to this day.
Sandy, praying for you and your family.
