Audrey Hemsley Ellis, passed away from complications of Alzheimer's on December 9, 2017. She was under the care of Pruitt Hospice at Insignia of Savannah Memory Care in Savannah, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Henrietta Hemsley, husband, Eldward Ellis, son, Martin Ellis Sr., grandson, Martin Ellis Jr., and granddaughter LaTanya Lee Thomas. Audrey was born in LaPlata Md, but grew up in Washington DC, where she met her husband. After her marriage she moved to Vienna, VA, was a homemaker, and raised her family. She volunteered at her children's schools, and was a Girl Scout leader. She had resided in Savannah, GA in recent years until her passing. Surviving are her children, Marian Lee of Savannah, GA, Michael Ellis of Gainesville, VA, Melvin Ellis, of Hagerstown, MD, Marvin Ellis, of Lewisville, TX, Mark Ellis, of Petersburg, VA, Melissa Randolph,of Herndon, VA and Melinda Ellis, of Atlanta, GA. She also is survived by 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 sister, Doreen Dent, 1 brother, Howard Hemsley, 1 sister-in-law, Elnora Ellis, 4 brothers-in-laws, Harold, Albert (Beverly), Joseph (Doris) and Malloy (Connie) Ellis, and a host other relatives. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Insignia and Pruitt Hospice for the exceptional caring and compassionate care she received while residing there. There will be a Catholic Liturgy on Saturday, December 16 at The Chapel at National Memorial Home , 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA. The family will gather at 10:00AM with the services beginning at 11:00AM.
