Vernie Cuniese Byrd Doughty, Age 87, of Cross Lanes, WV, Born June 5, 1930, went with the angels to join her beloved husband, Wilford on December 12, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilford D. Doughty; her daughter Amy G. Doughty Anderson; and a grandson, Adam Baker. She was also preceded by her parents Mary Sally Burdette Byrd and James E. Byrd, her step-mother Virginia O. Thaxton Byrd, her sister Dorothy Dalton Byrd, as well as nine step brothers & sisters.
She is survived by five children Sally Baker (Jim) Sayre, PA; Debbie Pegg (Robert) Gallipollis OH; Azalea Boehm, TX, Wilma Garbett (David) Charleston WV, and Aaron Doughty (Joyce) Henderson NC; 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren; as well as 7 half-siblings: Esther Warner, Angeline O'Dell, Pearl McWatters (WV), Virginia Gay, Jimmy Byrd, (Ohio), Correnia Chapin and Henry Byrd (FL).
Vernie enjoyed listening to preachers and gospel music on TV. She was a member of Nitro Church of God, Nitro, WV, and the Women's Missionary Circle. She was a homemaker who raised her children & also took care of some of her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafting & going to craft shows with her husband, Wilford as well as doing crosswords, word searches, puzzles & painting birds & flowers. One of her favorite things to do was taking broken things and making them new again.
There will be visitation on Monday, December 18th, at 1:00 pm followed by service at 2:00 pm, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home & Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes where she will also be laid to rest. Service will be officiated by Rob VanFossen.
