Jackson Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 13, 2017.

Jackson E. Wood, a longtime Arlington resident, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born in Athens, Ohio on October 22,1934 to Charles and Lena Wood. Jack graduated from Ohio University with a Fine Arts degree. After college, he served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. His professional career began with RCA in New Jersey, after which he joined Westinghouse Corporation and worked on the Gemini Project. Jack's path then became more managerial in nature when he joined AAA in Virginia as Director of Management Services.

In 1976, he joined the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association as head of meetings and conferences. Among his contributions at NRECA was his service as liaison to a group examining the need for telecommunications in rural America. This caused the founding of a new organization called the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative.

He retired from NRECA in 1998 and became an active member of the Arlington Seniors Golf Club. Jack was also very involved with managing and coaching Falls Church Little League and Babe Ruth teams in the late 60's and 70's. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 63 years; children Mike & Mindy and grandchildren Max, Morgan & Sammy. Friends may call at Murphy's Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St., Falls Church, VA on Friday December. 15, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 16 2017 at 1:00 p.m at National Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Cancer Society or Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington, VA.
