Richard Lottes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2017.

Richard "Pop" W. Lottes, 94, of Evansville, IN, passed away at Bethel Manor on December 15, 2017 after a long struggle with Parkinson's. Richard, the son of George and Alvina (Purtzer) Lottes, was born in Evansville, IN, on June 14, 1923.

He graduated from Reitz High School in 1941, and shortly after, began working at Swanson Nunn Electric Co. World War Il intervened and in 1942 Richard joined the United States Army. He was a Technical Sergeant with the 1477th Engineering Co. serving as an electrician in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Richard returned home in 1946, resumed working at Swanson Nunn Electric Co. for the next 42 years, and retired as Vice-President of Motor Repairs in 1988. He was an avid sports fan all his life – particularly the St. Louis Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts. Pop read the newspaper front to back every morning as long as his eye sight allowed. Besides being knowledgeable about various current events, Pop offered guidance and advice to his sons and nephew when called upon. His dry humor, slow smile, and shoulder-shaking chuckles will be missed. Richard was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Evansville, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Alberta, and his wife, Marguerite.

Richard leaves behind his four sons, Richard E. of Ft. Collins, CO, Steven G. (Yvonne) of Evansville, IN, Larry D. (Debbie) of Frankfort, KY, and David D. (Tammy) of Evansville, IN; 9 grandchildren, Heather (Troy) Juenemann of Colorado, Amy (Jeff) Kissel of North Carolina, Melissa (Joe) Stewart of Kentucky, Tiffany (Chad) Clapper of Kentucky, Ashley (Kevin) Engle of Kentucky, David Lottes of Indiana, Jeremy (Mandy) of Indiana, Bret Hoehn of Maryland, and Kelly (Eric) Lucas of Indiana; 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen (Dale) Carrell and Wilma (Don) Hartig both of Evansville, IN; and nieces and nephews including Paul (Luann) Pearce of Evansville, IN.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Rusche for his excellent care over the years and to the staff of Bethel Manor for their love and compassion in caring for Pop and all of us.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, December 18, 2017, at Alexander North Chapel officiated by Rev. Matthew Schilling with burial in Lutheran Cemetery on St. Joseph Avenue, Evansville, IN. Friends may visit 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan St., Evansville, IN, 47711 or Bethel Manor, 6015 Kratzville Rd., Evansville, IN 47710.
