Damon E. Workman, 89, of Fayetteville, WV, died December 15, 2017 peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Born July 13, 1928 in Clay County, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E. and Bertha Mullins Workman, sisters Phyllis McNutt and Freda Mullins, and brothers Denvil, Darrel, and Dale Workman.
Damon was a 1948 graduate of Clay County High School. His 34 years as a welder at Union Carbide's Alloy Plant were interrupted only by service in the U.S. Army, and by the occasional organized work stoppage. He could build or repair almost anything, and did so throughout his retirement for anyone who asked.
Sixty-six years ago, he married the love of his life, Mae Reedy Workman, who survives him. He also leaves behind their son, Eddie (Nancy) of Fayetteville, and one brother, Doyle Workman, of Canvas, WV. Damon's grandsons, Seth (Melissa) and Luke (Katie) of Fayetteville, WV, and Jesse of Huntington, WV, mourn his loss, along with Amaya, Deacon and Lacee, his great-grandchildren. Damon was fortunate to have been cared for by six special angels: Amanda, Annette, Carol, Ginny, Saundra and Tammy. The Workman Family appreciates Dr. Jessica F. Swank and the nurses at Hospice of Southern WV, who provided knowledge, support and much-needed TLC.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Fayetteville Baptist Church, Fayetteville, WV. Visitation will begin at 12:00, and family is invited to gather one hour earlier. Funeral services will be presented by Pastor Ron George Jr, Rev. David Sneed and Pastor Mack Canterbury, with special hymn by Saundra Tucker. Military graveside rites will be performed at Fayetteville Huse Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to Hospice of Southern WV, or Fayette County Public Libraries.

Mr. Workman was a very special person. When I think of our younger days, like in Little League, I always remember him. After we moved back up here on the plateau, the first people we ran into and knew were Mr. and Mrs. Workman. What a great couple they always were. Mae, Eddie, Nancy and the rest of the family, you have our deepest sympathy. We will always remember him with the kindest of thoughts.
