He was the son of Leonard (Shorty) Lewis and Lois Bartlett. As a young man he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Cotton Flat Baptist Church. He graduated from Midland High School in 1953 and proceeded to join the military in 1956 where served in the US. Army until 1958, at which time he was honorably discharged. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and the occasional poker game. In the fall of 1962 he met and fell in love with Frances Barnett while he was working for Drilco in Laurel, Mississippi. On April 5, 1963 they were wed and then blessed with three children Perry, Kim, and Tammy. In the early years of their marriage they were transferred to several cities following his job before returning and settling in his hometown of Midland, Texas. Tammy, my heart is saddened by the loss of your dad - Poppa Frog as I called him always made my day when he came to see me at work! I have solace knowing he's in heaven with Jesus and is no longer suffering. As long as I've known you and your family, your mom and dad both made me feel like one of the kids but your dad always made the laugh! He always had to have that gruff manner about him, but I could see it in his eyes he was a softie!!! I am blessed to have you and all of your family in my life and to be able to call you my sister from another mother! PS don't every tell Brice I'm not his aunt Cheryl! Love you very much!
