Kermit Lewis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 18, 2017.

Kermit Kelso Lewis, 83 of Midland, Texas was born on March 28, 1934, in Midland, Texas. On the morning of December 16, 2017 he left his earthly body and gained his wings to be with the love of his life in heaven. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He was the son of Leonard (Shorty) Lewis and Lois Bartlett. As a young man he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Cotton Flat Baptist Church. He graduated from Midland High School in 1953 and proceeded to join the military in 1956 where served in the US. Army until 1958, at which time he was honorably discharged. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and the occasional poker game. In the fall of 1962 he met and fell in love with Frances Barnett while he was working for Drilco in Laurel, Mississippi. On April 5, 1963 they were wed and then blessed with three children Perry, Kim, and Tammy. In the early years of their marriage they were transferred to several cities following his job before returning and settling in his hometown of Midland, Texas. Throughout his years he had an array of business anywhere from trucking to inspection services and sandblasting. However his true passion and heart was planted in farming cotton. He relished in his morning ritual of opening the Coop so that the early birds could enjoy their morning coffee in a seat at the "round table of knowledge."

He is preceded in death by wife Frances Lewis, parents, stepfather Bill Roush, and daughter in law Shelly Lewis.

He is survived by his three children Perry Lewis and his children Ben, Blair, and Bryce Lewis of Midland; Kim and husband Tony Foster and their children Kelsey, Kade, and Kourtney Foster all of Midland; Tammy and husband Kevin Shelton and daughter Mollie Shelton of Abilene, Texas; his stepmother Teresa Lewis of Rising Star, sisters Kay and husband Jerry Prosser of Mansfield, Sharon and Ronnie Bond of Cross Plains, and brother Randy Lewis of Rising Star. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Doug Boone, George Hargrave, Ricky Railey, Andy Schumann, Jody Schumann, and Scott Shirley.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make donations to Hospice of Midland, 911 W. Texas Ave Midland, Texas 79701 or your favorite charity.

Tammy, my heart is saddened by the loss of your dad - Poppa Frog as I called him always made my day when he came to see me at work! I have solace knowing he's in heaven with Jesus and is no longer suffering. As long as I've known you and your family, your mom and dad both made me feel like one of the kids but your dad always made the laugh! He always had to have that gruff manner about him, but I could see it in his eyes he was a softie!!! I am blessed to have you and all of your family in my life and to be able to call you my sister from another mother! PS don't every tell Brice I'm not his aunt Cheryl! Love you very much!
