Jeanette Doheny Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2017.

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jeanette Doheny, 86, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017. She was born in Newport News, Virginia on June 21, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William N. and Ina Mae Eken; first husband, Lonnie A. Morgan; brother, William T. Eken; sister, Elizabeth Timberlake; and second husband, Vincent Doheny.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan P. Morgan (Paul Babcock); David R. Morgan; and Vickie M. Dunn; grandchildren, Joshua Morgan; Jason Riker (Joy); Luke Morgan; Michael Babcock (Emily); Megan Babcock; and great-grandchildren, Cardin Babcock and Ryland Babcock.

Jeanette was a substitute teacher for Gloucester County Public Schools with a special talent for working with children with disabilities. She went on to work in the Gloucester County Public Schools administrative offices and at the Middle-Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board retiring as the Executive Director.

She loved the Lord, studying the Bible and teaching Bible lessons throughout her life. Jeanette recently began attending Williamsburg Assembly of God and was thrilled that she had found a local 'church family'. Jeanette had a passion for reading, traveling and being with her family. She was an avid lover of animals and cared for many throughout her lifetime. She was loved by all who knew her for her generous spirit, concern for others and sweet disposition.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27th at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg with Pastor Dave Gibson officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23185. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.

I had the pleasure of working with Jeanette when she was Executive Director of the Middle-Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board and I worked at Eastern State Hospital in the 1980's. Her guidance of CSB programs and services was outstanding and many benefited from her leadership. I also had the pleasure of working with her husband, Vince Doheny, Western Tidewater Community Services Board, Suffolk, Virginia. Both she and Vince were committed to making programs and services available and at a high level for individuals requiring behavioral health and substance abuse services in their respective communities. They did an outstanding job and received lots of positive recognition at the time. I extend deepest sympathies to the families and was so glad I was able to work with them both at their respective Community Services Boards.

Susan, I read about your mother this morning. She and I had a special relationship, and she was such a pleasure to work with. I leaned on her for her judgement and opinions, and was always grateful for her support. I know that you two were birds of a feather and that you will miss her very much. We have been at Smith Mountain Lake for 2 years now. If you ever get this way, let us know. Evins

Dear Susan,
I am so sorry to hear about your Mother passing away. She was always the sweetest, kindest lady. I am thinking about you. It's not easy and I think I'll always have an empty spot where my Mother use to be. Love you and will see you soon. xoxxoooxox Love, Nancy D.

Susan and Vickie,

You probably do not remember me. My parents and I lived next door to your grandparents in Stuart Gardens.

I lost my mom in April, so maybe our moms are catching up now.

Hugs to you from NC.
