Carrie Nesbitt Smith, 89, of Martinsville, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017. She was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina, April 7, 1928 to Leonard Jackson "Jack" Smith and Bertha Powell Smith. Miss Smith received a Th. B Degree from Holmes Bible College, Greenville, SC. She received a B.A. Degree from Lynchburg College and earned an M. Ed. Degree from Duke University. She was a school teacher in Martinsville City Schools and was retired with 32 years of Service. She was a member of Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church of Stoneville, NC.
In addition to her parents, Miss Smith was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard F. Smith, Willard J. Smith, Hillard E. Smith, C. J. Smith and Maynard Lee Smith. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Louise Smith Morris, Katherine S. Raines and an infant sister.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred S. Black of Kernnersville, NC.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church, Stoneville, NC. The Funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Cas Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Christian View Christian Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville.

Miss Smith was my 6th grade teacher at joseph martin elementary school on what we called southside out of all my teachers I remembered her she was one of my favorite teachers I'm 60 yrs old now and will never forget her rest in peace your work here is done .....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,keven Lancaster shaffer

We will certainly miss Carrie at Christian View P/H Church. Due to her declining health, she wasn't able to attend as regularly as she once did but we were always glad to see her when she was able.
Her faithfulness through the years was a testament of her love of the Lord, her church, and her community. We wanted to express our condolences to the family; unfortunately, we both were unable to attend the visitation or funeral due to our own illness. May God bless you with His comfort.

Miss Smith was my 6th grade teacher at Joseph Martin, and having gifts of music she would generously share those gifts at school as well as Wilson Street Pentecostal Holiness Church. We loved it.
