COLUMBIA – Margaret Rapann Gray Greiner, age 89, died Thursday, December 21, 2017. Affectionately known to her friends and family as “Pan,” was born April 21, 1928 in Port Jervis, New York to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Gray.
Rapann is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Raymond Richard Greiner. She is also survived by her children, Colleen O’Neal of Andover, Mass., Mark Greiner (Karen) of Columbia, Kristen Betts (Jim) of Atlanta, Kimberly Spivey (Andy) of Columbia, Laurie Jaccard (Scott) of Hilton Head Island; brother, William Gray (Judy) of Port Jervis, brother-in-law, Edward Polanis of Port Jervis; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Rapann graduated from Port Jervis High School and attended Packard Institute Junior College business school in New York City. While living in Charlotte and once her children were of school age, she was an advertising/marketing assistant for Strawn and Bumgardner Real Estate.
After moving to Columbia to be closer to her family, she became a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Pan was a fabulous artist who loved to share her wide array of art with family and friends. She was an avid fan of Gamecock basketball and baseball sports teams. Pan will be remembered as a fun-loving, patriotic, and generous woman who will be missed by so many.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Jane Polanis; brothers, Senator E. Arthur Gray (Helen) and Gerald E. Gray; son-in-law, Kirkman O’Neal, II; niece, Jayne Polanis; and in-laws, George Greiner (Anna), Edward Greiner (Jean), Francis Rickley (and son Dennis), Patty Blumfield (Bobby), Thomas Greiner and Kathy Hempstead.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment and a private ceremony at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
