Jessie Overby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2017.

Jessie Mae Johnson Overby was born in Covington, Texas on November 16, 1938 to JV (Bud) and Viola Johnson. She grew up in Hill County where love of family and God were paramount in her life. She graduated Valedictorian from Hillsboro High School a year earlier than required in 1955. Then attended TCU for one semester when she married Billy J Overby on December 17, 1955. They met at Hillsboro church of Christ when he winked at her while serving communion, that wink went on to become 62 years of a wonderful married life. They moved to Houston, Texas and had 2 daughters Linda Renea Overby and Rhonda Lynn Overby. Jess continued her education, while substitute teaching at Aldine High School, touching many students lives. She graduated from University of Houston with a BA in Education then taught math at Humble High School, Northland Christian School and was an Administrator in the Early Learning Program at Northland Christian school, all while raising her family. Throughout her life she worshiped at Hillsboro / Lindale and Bammel Road churches of Christ. She dearly loved Camp Bandina attending every year for 30 plus years. Currently, she and Bill have been worshipping at Conroe church of Christ becoming part of a very special small group. She had so many talents and passions Math, Art, Poetry, Singing, creating Videos; but most of all she loved Christ, her family and his children. Her love was unconditional and in her presence, you became the person God meant you to be.

One of her many favorite scriptures:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."
John 14:1-4

Rhonda:
My heart hurts for you and your family. A Mother is always the anchor of the family and the first teacher of God's word. You were very blessed from what I have read. I never got to meet your Mother but you always talked about her with great love and respect. I offer you my prayers for peace of heart and may the love of God surround you and comfort you.

In the peace of Christ,
Liz Kupec

What a true blessing it's been to have Bill and Jess in our Life Group. Jess was always a beautiful light with a song in her heart. We will greatly miss her kind, loving and always positive presence. We pray for peace and comfort for Bill and family.

My Dearest Friend, I will always cherish the friendship we shared for 50 years. Although we didn't see each other very often, due to travel time, we always stayed close by phone. I am so thankful we had our last talk for a little while. You keep singing and keep ALL THOSE ANGELS straight! I will not be sad, I will continue to be very THANKFUL for you! Janet Butts
