What to say about my co-worker and friend Marge? She was my first mentor when I was fresh out of college. She helped me make the transition from "textbook accounting" to "real world, real life accounting" - showing me all of the daily, practical things, both mundane and major, that you had to know to do well. She got me off to a good start in my career. She was a good teacher who was knowledgeable and very, very serious about our profession. But, she was also the one who, after a little good natured teasing on his part, bet our boss lunch that she and I could turn out the next financial statement we did perfectly proofread the first time around. With blue pencil poised in hand, he spent a long time looking at that next one. Marge and I both enjoyed lunch on him very much! And, she was also the person who came back all excited from visiting her family and said to me: "I know you like science fiction. I just saw a movie I know you'll love. Let's go! And, so, go we did...twice!! The movie?...Star Wars. Plus, later, both sequels. So, what to say about Marge? To me, she was a special person of intelligence, integrity, wit and humor. I will remember her always with equal parts of respect and fondness.
