Fred Ingram Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 29, 2017.

Fred Ingram, 92, of Amarillo died Wednesday, December 27, 2017. Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the campus of High Plains Children's Home, 11461 South Western Street, Amarillo, Texas. Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in San Jacinto Church of Christ, 823 South Mississippi Street. Fred was born June 6, 1925, in Sistersville, West Virginia to Fred and Lillian Ingram. He grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia, living there until enlisting in the United States Navy. Fred served his country for 32 months, including time at Pearl Harbor until being honorably discharged on April 30, 1946. Fred attended Abilene Christian University in 1948, where he met Thelma Short. They were married on October 21, 1949. Fred worked hard to provide for his family and held various positions of employment, including bookkeeping and as a credit/collections manager. After retiring, Fred and Thelma enjoyed taking many trips in their R.V. Fred sold R.V.'s before becoming a shuttle driver for auto dealerships. He continued his driving until Thelma had a stroke in August of 2015. At that time he became Thelma's full-time caregiver. Fred diligently and faithfully took care of Thelma until his own health began to decline. He loved and prayed daily for his family. Some of his last words were, "I love all my family". He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ingram of Amarillo; two daughters, Christie Hollingsworth and husband Phil of Norman, Oklahoma, Jo Sutherlin and husband Eddie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son, Freddie Ingram and wife Kerry of Skiatook, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Garrett Hollingsworth and wife Meghan, Cameron Hollingsworth and wife Lori, Mandy Looper and husband Jeremy, Michael Sutherlin and wife Mallory, Brad Sutherlin, Lance Ridenour and wife Heather, Jaiden Ingram and Jarreth Ingram; great-grandchildren, Caden, Maggie, Lainey, Londyn, Emmalyn, Rosalee, Ryan, Will, Ava and a new arrival on January 20, 2018, of another great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 South western St., Amarillo, Texas 79118. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.

Fred will certainly be missed by his church family at San Jacinto! He was always in attendance, perhaps leading singing or leading prayers. He was very diligent in checking on the sick and perhaps visiting them. We send our sympathy to you, Thelma and all your sweet family. We send our love to you. James and Lynn Duncan
