Jonie Dorris Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 30, 2017.

Jonie Louise Dorris departed this world on December 26th 2017. She blessed us with her presence for 63 years. Jonie had her fair share of trials and tribulation, yet she remained a spirited champion of helping others. Jonie's compassion for others started in her childhood days from something as simple as playing "schoolhouse" onwards to the responsibilities of being a "Big" sister. As a young girl she adored her dad and even into adulthood never lived farther than walking distance from her mom.

When Jonie became a young mother she applied the same devotion raising three children. During this time she tried her hand in the Local 150 operating engineers just like her father. After an injury sidelined her from the local 150 she kept herself engaged helping her kids learn computers becoming somewhat of an expert herself. She also loved to do arts and crafts eventually moving on to creating flower boutiques and elegant wedding cakes with her mother.

Jonie married in 1978 to her lifelong love Leon Dorris. She welcomed Leon's young son into her heart becoming a mother onto him as well. Leon and Jonie liked spending time eating out and working in the yard. The couple enjoyed travelling on cruises, putting up extravagant Christmas décor, and going to the casino. Jonie and Leon shared the same good set of values and truly had forty years of bliss.

Jonie is survived by her mother Verda L. Martin her loving husband Leon Dorris and their children Daughter Rebecca Dorris Sons Ken (Tracey) Hutsell & Michael (Tommie) Steinger and grandchildren she adored Andrew, Austyn, Etta, Jameson and Ryleigh. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth L. Martin her brothers Kenneth L. Martin Jr. (Porky) Paul T. Martin and her son Andy Hutsell.

As Jonie progressed into later life she became a grandmother. Her compassion and desire to see the very best for them grew to new bounds. Jonie always strived for the best in loved ones and truly wanted us all too be happy. We should all be humbled and honored to have been able to share her life with her as long as we got her order right. We all love you so much and will miss you mom.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, from 6 – 8 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Winter Garden.

Leon - Jon and I were so saddened to hear of Jonie's passing. She (and your family) are wonderful neighbors and we know how much she meant to all of you, and you to her. Jonie was always ready with a smile, a wave and a friendly word when we saw her. Please, if there is something we can do for you or your family, let us know. Jonie will be missed. Our deepest condolences and continued prayers for you all.

Jonie was a regular of mine at longhorn. I was so shocked to hear this. She was very particular, but i learned to know her and her requests and her expectations. She followed me from other locations and i remember her order to a T! We used to call her ribeye lady lol. But after really getting to know her she became a friend and someone who we shared stories with. She always asked to see pictures of my kids to see how much they had grown. She loved her grandson to the moon and back. Jonie followed me to idrive where she finally changed her order. Not but much but she always had something to say! What can i say she LOVED STEAK! FILET MED WELL LIGHT SEASONING, BAKED POTATOE EXTRA BUTTER ON SEPERATE PLATE, SIDE OF SAUTEED FRESH ONIONS. OH AND DONT FORGET THE COKE TOGO FOR HER CIGARETTE AFTER! I will never forget your order, i will never forget the conversations we shared, most of all i.will never forget the strong women you were! Rest easy jonie you are loved and will be missed.

My condolences to your family. I was happy to contact Jonie in the last year or so on Facebook, we went to school and ran around together! Last Spring I went by her house in Rockford that she grew up in and took pictures for her, she was happy to see the old neighborhood, I will truly miss her humor. RIP my friend.
