Jean Kay Koon Barrickman, 84, passed from this earth on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
She was born July 11, 1933 in New Castle, Indiana, to Clyde and Josephine Koon. Surviving are her daughters, Julie Owens, Kim Barrickman; son, John Barrickman and wife, Christine Montgomery Barrickman; stepdaughter, Paula Barrickman; grandson, Jeppe Jenson; and great-grandson, Maxwell Jenson.
Following high school, Jean Kay received her X-ray technician certification. In June of 1958, she married Larry Barrickman and they moved to Columbia in 1979. Together they opened B&B Quickprint where they eventually retired.
For over 30 years, Jean Kay was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she worked on several committees and also served as a deacon. She was a hospice volunteer who loved all of her patients. Until her death, she was still in contact with the daughter of her favorite patient. Jean Kay helped others to feel comfort and to heal, simply by being there, in their time of need.
She was held dear by many, for her abundant kindness; selfless giving; ability to love deeply; meaningful hugs; and her wonderful wit. She liked to sing and loved to dance, but laughter and time spent with family and friends brought her the most joy.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Flowers may be sent to the church or a donation may be made in her name to The Wounded Warrior Project. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo is assisting the family.

GOD SAW SHE WAS GETTING TIRED
AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE,
SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND HER,
AND WHISPERED "COME WITH ME."
A GOLDEN HEART STOPPED BEATING,
HARD-WORKING HANDS TO REST,
GOD BROKE OUR HEARTS TO PROVE TO US
HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST.
Jean was the sweetest person and I was so honored to call her a friend.
Love & Prayers to her family.
