Mel Olson, was born in Malung, MN on October 17, 1927. He passed away at the age of 90 years in Phoenix, AZ.
Mel owned and operated three cafeterias, had a jail ministry, taught Sunday school at Souls Harbor, coached little league, coached men's softball at PCA, served on the Christian Challenge Academy school board, managed Becky's Cafeteria in Minneapolis, opened a grocery store in Coon Rapids, MN, owned Red Owl Meat Market in Anoka, MN which was the first self-service meat counter out in the rural area, owned United Cash Register with Lyn's dad, provided maintenance to the Christian school and Day Care as well as the apartments owned by Phoenix Christian Assembly. Mel was 17 years old when he joined the United States Navy during World War II. He and his wife Lyn are members of Phoenix Christian Assembly since living in Arizona. Mel was hard working, enjoyed spending time with all of his family, watching baseball, and singing.
Mel is survived by: Lyn, his beautiful wife, twin sister Millie, son, Steve Olson and his wife Mary Ann, Jim Olson and his wife Cindy, son, Mike Olson, his wife Lana, daughter Lisa Moore and her husband Marlon, daughter Joy Zilar and her husband Chris, and daughter Sara Sourant, her husband Matt.
Mel and Lyn have 16 grandchildren, Ana, Eric, Matthew, Lee Anna, Melinda, Monica, Jessica, Mackenzie, Hannah, Abigail, Curtis, Alex, Zachary, Ravenne, Tanner and Lilly.
Mel and Lyn have 19 great grandchildren and expecting 2 more in addition to expecting their first great great grandchild. Sidney, Parker, Clint, Rebecca, Casey, Kyle, Koleton, Kaelyn, Charlee, Evelyn, Max, Nixon, Cooper, Van, Morgan, Clara, Annabelle, Kade and Drake.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 12th at 11AM at Green Acres Mortuary 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale AZ. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Phoenix Christian Assembly Missions, 2030 N. 36th St. Phoenix, AZ 85008.
