Paul Arthur Hensiek was born in Portland, Oregon to Robert A. Hensiek and Arlene R. Heincker Hensiek on December 29, 1953, and passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. In his early childhood, he also lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and moved to Phoenix in 1959. He married Sharla Amendt, the love of his life, June 7, 1975. Paul and Sharla were blessed with three children, and Paul was a devoted father. His faith and his family were the focus of his life. He coached little league and soccer teams, attended every possible game, concert and tournament, and found no greater joy than being with his children. He loved camping and hiking, and some of the family's best memories are those of camping trips where seemingly everything that could go wrong went wrong, but Dad was there to keep everyone safe during the adventure. Paul graduated from Grand Canyon College (now known as Grand Canyon University) in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He worked at Financial Guardian Insurance alongside his father until 1978, when he transitioned to a long and meaningful career with State Farm Insurance, first as an underwriter, then beginning in 1983, as an agent. He sought to serve his clients with the utmost professionalism and integrity. He completed CPCU, CLU, and ChFC designations, and was the recipient of a number of honors. He retired in December 2016. In 2010, Paul was diagnosed with Visual Variant Alzheimer's disease, but was always the epitome of a brave and godly man, even as his illness progressed and life became increasingly difficult. Ultimately, the disease took a very heavy toll. He was a member of Bethany Bible Church from 1989 to 2016 where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Church Treasurer and Enrichment Class leader. In 2017, he and Sharla attended Moon Valley Bible Church, a place that he loved despite his illness. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Brian Hensiek and sister Marcia Hensiek. He is survived by his wife, Sharla; sons, Jonathan Hensiek (Rachel) and David Hensiek (Sarah); daughter, Shauna Otte (Jonathan); ten grandchildren; and sister Laura Hensiek. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse or Hospice of the Valley. A Memorial Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022.

Paul, what an awesome brother you were to me! Here are just a few highlights of our 52 years together. I remember you bringing gifts for me from your trip to Israel---which I still have. I also remember playing your clarinet in the upper grades at Paiute Elementary School (and we even walked in the Parada del Sol). I treasure our family trips we took. You were a GREAT older brother. I thank GOD for allowing my children Heather Knight '97/20 & Heath Knight '01/16 and me to see you for your 64th BIRTHday. I unconditionally LOVE & MISS you so, brother. I look forward to spending eternity with you in PARADISE with healed bodies and no more pain, trouble nor discomfort.
Sharla, Jonathan, Shauna and David what a bittersweet experience. The earthly loss of a man you loved and endured yet you look forward to seeing him in HEAVEN for eternity! My heart aches for each of you. May the peace and comfort of the LORD sustain you. All my love, Laura (Aunt)

Hello Hensiek family,
Praying for your family and remembering Paul, as our agent and a friend. We are so appreciative of all his service, professionally and also service for the Lord at Bethany and helping with Operation Christmas Child. We rejoice with you he is out of his misery from his disease and with Jesus, but it is still a great loss and know the Lord will comfort you all in your souls and spirits.
With Love and sympathy, Bonnie and Glen Delander

Laura, I am so sorry to hear of your brother's passing. I have very fond memories of your entire family and I remember that Paul's wedding was one of the first that I had attended. I remember the cans on the car... that is a good memory. I am very sorry that you have had to go thru so much.. you are my longest term friend!!!! I don't think I can attend the celebration as I have a business trip tomorrow and I won't be back in time. My thoughts will be with you tho. Paul is in a better place ... Lisa Colaw (Risser)
