Pilt was born November 16, 1921 to J. D. and Bessie Ophelia (Wilton) Jackson in San Saba County. Pilt was a native son of Richland Springs, leaving only to join the U.S. Navy and the war effort, where he served in the Pacific theater. Upon his return, he met Virginia "Ginger" Reynolds, and they married in June, 1947, settling on a farm outside Richland Springs. With the advent of the 1950's drought, he resettled his young family in San Antonio, where he worked in Civil Service doing aircraft repair at Randolph Air Force Base for nearly 30 years. As soon as he was able to retire, Pilt returned to San Saba County to farm and live out his remaining years in the land of his birth. Pilt was an honorable, caring man who always thought of others.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his children, Wanda J. (John W.) Schafer of Southlake and Sherye L. Jackson of Richland Springs; grandsons William R. Schafer (Martha) of Santo and John M. Schafer (Lindsey) of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great granddaughter, Everleigh Beth Schafer and brother, Jack A. Jackson of Tyler.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Virginia Ann Reynolds Jackson and sister, Belva Underwood.
