Allena Tegarden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2018.

Allena Tegarden was born to Allen and Irene Tegarden on October 3, 1952 in Portland at St. Vincent’s Hospital. The Tegarden family spent their early years in Grants Pass, Oregon. Allena moved to Eugene with her mother when her parents divorced and eventually settled in Portland, Oregon where she would live the remainder of her life in the Raleigh Hills neighborhood. Allena attended Bridlemile elementary school and graduated from Wilson High School in 1970. In 1971 Allena gave birth to her only child Dylan. She worked for Multnomah County as a bookkeeper. in 1985 Allena decided to pursue her undergraduate degree to further her career. She graduated from Portland State University with her degree in Biology in 1989. She spent short stints with the National Forest Service and local testing labs before pursuing her Medical Technician’s degree from OHSU and became a member of the American Association of Clinical Pathologists. She would work for Kaiser Permanente for 25 years as a Medical Technician specializing in Hematology an Oncology. She recently retired in October of 2017. Allena’s passion was Rock and Roll. She collected memorabilia and attended concerts throughout her life. Meeting the Beatles upon their arrival in Portland and attending their concert was the catalyst for her lifelong love of music. She also loved to read, particularly mystery novels, and you were likely to find her on weekends with friends at brunch. A snarky attitude and quick to point out the obvious, her sense of humor was cherished by those who knew and loved her. All services will be held at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary. A visitation will occur Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 4-7pm; a funeral service will occur Sunday, January 14, 2018 at10:00am; a committal service for Allena will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 11am. I really enjoyed working with Allena at the Public Health Lab at PSU. She was such a hard worker and fun to be around. Allena was devoted to her son and we traded stories about our kids. I thought what a wonderful accomplishment to go on to Med Tech school and have a successful career.

Allena was the jokester in our work group. She made us laugh and filled us with joy. When she was not at work I would have to call her to get my Allena fix.I will miss her greatly. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dylan and her extended family.
