Gary Lee Naylor, 56, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in San Angelo.
Gary was born February 2, 1961 in Amarillo, Texas to James W. and Kathryn Eckman Naylor. He grew up in the Texas panhandle and graduated from High School in Dimmitt, Texas. Gary then attended West Texas State University where he played football. He worked various jobs and moved to Midland where he worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) for 31 years until his passing. He loved working for UPS with his UPS family. Gary married the love of his life, Vikki Murphy on June 16, 1990 and they shared 27 wonderful years together.
He was a loving and devoted son, husband, brother, father, uncle, cousin and PaPa. When he wasn't working he enjoyed hanging out and relaxing with family and friends. Gary's other passion was going out on the lake in his boat. He loved boating and enjoyed teaching people to ski and tube. Gary and Vikki also own and operate Preston's Play Yard on College Hills Blvd. When Gary wasn't working or out on the boat, he was awarded the title of "Mr. Fixit" by his family and friends. Gary could fix just about anything and would tinker around with anything that needed fixing.
His absolute favorite pastime was telling stories with his family and friends. Gary was always the life of the party, and he delivered the most beautiful speeches. He had numerous affiliations but most notably, was his involvement with United Way. Gary's humor and love and devotion to his family will remain in our hearts forever! We will dearly miss him.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Clara Eckman and J.L. and Elma Naylor; his mother and father-in-law, Jerry Murphy and Jacquelyn Bickham Hawley.
He is survived by his wife, Vikki Naylor, of San Angelo; his daughter, Kanji Naylor Adams and her husband Danny of Midland, Texas; his parents, James W. and Kathryn Naylor, of Waco, Texas; his grandchildren, Preston and Reese Adams, of Midland; his brother, Donnie Naylor and his wife Melissa, of Waco; his sister- in-laws', DeeDee Neal and her husband Alan of Pottsboro, Texas, Kandi Bagwell and her husband Don of Midland and Angie Fields of Midland; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and many close friends.

If you never had the opportunity to know Gary, you missed out, he was and is a true friend and Great person! Gary and I have been friends for more than 17 years, we talked monthly for over an hour each time, he never had a situation that he couldn't turn into something positive, some of you that knew him well will remember "Dude, get over it" Gary will be missed more than words can describe. I know your family will hurt for a while, but they will move forward because of your legacy and the memories they hold. You truly are a Great Man!

1985,,,,,, The MHS class of 1975 was having their 10 year reunion and I was invited. They had reserved the upstairs balcony area of Mr. B's nightclub in Waco. I was having a great time visiting with old friends I had not seen in a long time,,,,it had been years for some. I was sitting at a long table talking to a bunch of people when this monster of a cowboy in a cowboy hat and dark brown duster, full beard and long hair, leaned over my left shoulder to inform me, in a pretty persuasive tone, that I was sitting in his chair. Not sure how to respond, after a short hesitation, another monster in identical hat and duster with long hair and full beard leaned over my right shoulder to drive the point home "He said you are sitting in his chair". Well I have never seen a chair worth dying over so at that point it became painfully obvious that I needed to move, and a heartfelt apology was probably in order,,,, if not absolutely required. As I searched for the words, as well as a speedy exit, both giants, as well as the entire table, burst into laughter. As soon as they could compose themselves, they took off their hats and said "Brett, it's us, Donnie and Gary" (who I had not seen in years). I was never so glad to see a couple of big bruisers in my whole life. We had a great time catching up that night which led to more fun and memorable times together. A 2000 lb black angus bull with a bad attitude comes to mind, but that is another story :-). Although I did not get to see Gary a lot, all of my memories of him are of us having fun and laughing,,,, a lot. What a great guy! Much love to his family and friends.

Gary, your wonderful and robust laugh and your huge smile defined you! And you were indeed Mr. Fix-It! When things were chaotic in Brownwood, you looked for something to fix! You made me smile. My prayers are for your family to find peace and for His strength to always be there. You will be missed.

I have known Gary for over 30 years and he was the most delightful person to be around. That was sometimes hard to do driving for UPS but he excelled at everything he did. As part of his UPS family I want to say God has you now and I thank him for letting us share you for the time he had you on this earth.

My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you. Gary touched so many lives in his short time here on earth. He was one of the good guys. He had a heart of gold, a smile that lit up a room and some of the best hugs to be had. My prayer is that you each find peace and comfort in the days to come with the knowledge that we will all get to see Gary again one day. He will have everyone in heaven smiling and laughing.
