Mr. Leon Howard Roper, age 90 of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away on January 8, 2018 due to an extended illness. Born in Gainesville, Georgia, on September 23, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward Webb Roper and Tannie White Roper. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to1951. It was during this time that he married the love of his life, Mary Sue Williams Roper, also of Gainesville, Georgia. While serving in the military he trained and worked in Graphic Arts, this was the beginning of a lifetime career in the printing industry. He attended Kennesaw State University and the University of Georgia where he obtained his teaching credentials. He was retired from Cobb County School District where he was a Graphic Arts Instructor at both Sprayberry and Walton High Schools from 1968 until 1985. Mr. Roper was a man of many talents who could create and repair almost anything. He was known as a faithful man of God and was a long time member and deacon of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Marietta. Leon will always be remembered as a strong, intelligent, humble man who was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, teacher and friend. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roper is preceded in death by his daughter, Lynnda Kaye Roper; brothers, Noel, Walter and Boyd Roper; sisters, Dot Castleberry, Bonnie Clark and Reba Brookshire. Mr. Roper is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Sue Williams Roper; daughters, Susan (Michael) Maxwell and Lee Ann Morson; sisters, Mellie Millwood and Vindetta Wade; grandchildren, Dr. Andrea (Charles) Maxwell Privett, Justin Maxwell, and Seth Morson; great grandchild Alexandra Privett; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Leon Roper will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5PM until 8PM at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home. Another visitation will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home from 10AM until 11AM Saturday, January 13, 2018. A funeral service to honor the life of Leon will be held in the chapel of Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home at 11AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018. A Graveside service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society and The Alzheimer's Association.

Uncle Leon, who I am honored to have his name, taught me to print. This year marks 40 years of ministry in the printing the gospel. Uncle Leon had a part in that. He will be missed indeed.
