James Joel Gonzales aka "Big West", 42, of Lubbock passed away January 5, 2018. He was born in Lubbock on June 20, 1975 and received his diploma from Windham in June 2000. He married Mercedes Alonzo on September 5, 1992. James worked as a diesel mechanic for Arm Concrete before retiring. He had a passion for barbequing, spending time with his family and working on Avey, his Avalanche. He is survived by his wife, Mercedes; two sons, Alejandro and wife Melissa, and James Jr. and wife Marisol; two daughters, Jaslynn and husband Josef, and Anesha; as well as a daughter-in-law, Cheyenne with husband Alfreydo; 10 grandchildren; his parents, Guadlaupe and Barbara Gonzales; one brother, Israel; two sisters, Erica with husband Chris, and Jessica; his maternal grandparents, Irma Sepeda and Manuel with wife Julia Gutierrez; mother in law Beverly Alonzo; two sister in laws, Christina and Victoria John; brother in law, Greg and wife Melissa; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He is proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents, Augustine and Adelfa Gonzales; his grandsons, Adrian Gonzales and Dominic Parra. A visitation will be held Wednesday January 10th from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be on Thursday January 11th at 10am in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel.
