Jerry went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, January 7, 2018. He was born in January 1939, in Lamesa Texas.
He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1957, then attended Abilene Christian College and graduated with his BS in Science in 1961. He joined the Army National Guard in 1961 and was discharged honorably in 1964. He went on to be a financial Advisor for 42 years in Lubbock Texas.
Jerry's life pursuit was to master the game of golf, this lead him to one hole-in-one at Tapatio Springs in Boerne. This however was not the highlight of his golfing career. Jerry continued to strive for the perfect T-shot and putt. He most enjoyed the game when it was spent with his many friends and his daughter.
He is preceded in death by his parent's Barney and Irene McKinney.
Survivors include his daughter Megan McKinney of Lubbock and extended family.
A visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel Saturday, January 13,2018 at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Megan your father was a exceptional good man. I met you once at Shadow Hills.Jerry was a good friend of mine for over 10 years. We shared many fond memories each week on the golf course, which he always rode with me in the cart, at the annual AA Golf tournaments ( which we won several times over the years). This last summer we played in our last tournament and we tied for first, which delighted him the most. One time your dad, me and my son went to Midland played gold there one Saturday. Jerry will be missed and I will miss seeing him at the AA meetings.

Megan,
We are so sorry for your loss. We truly loved Jerry. My grandparents and my parents thought so much of him and valued his advise and true friendship for so many years. He was such a sweet soul. I never ever saw him without his great smile! We pray you can always look back at so many cherished memories. Love, Deuce and Rhonda Kauffman

Megan, I have such fond memories of trips to Lake Thomas with Uncle Barney, Aunt Irene and Jerry and of course, my family. We skied. We ate hamburgers. Homemade ice cream. And skied again. Uncle Barney just 'thought' he could tire one of us out. He couldn't! Jerry, always the kidder, always smiling, always willing to 'babysit' his young cousin - me! I still remember the last time I saw him at Aunt Irene's apartment by the lake in Lubbock. Still the fun-loving, teasing cousin. So attentive to Irene's needs! And oh, how he adored you! Talk about a proud Daddy! Jerry had even more pictures of you than Irene!! All beautiful of his adored daughter, Megan. My heart breaks for you. I am too far away to try and attend his service; but, am there right now in heart and thought with you. May God's tremendous peace flood your spirit and heart right now. May all your memories be sweet. May you find great comfort in those memories and in God's tenderest mercy during your grief. Love you, dear Megan. Chris McKinney Erwin.

Jerry hired me at IDS and helped me get through college at Tech. He was a great boss. A very wise man and always smiling. I remember him stating at a company dinner circa 1980 that he believed the Dow could support an 1800 level. And he was right! Rest in peace, my friend. ~clint cook~
