David was born on January 7, 1946, in St. Joseph, MO, to Dr. James and Hilma Kapp. He was a National Honor Society member at Central High School in St. Jo, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track, and formed many lifelong friendships. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1968, and went on to The Ohio State University where he earned his MBA. As an instructor pilot in the Air Force, David trained 100 new pilots. He served one tour in Vietnam and later flew many humanitarian missions to Africa during severe droughts of the mid-1970s. Upon leaving the Air Force, he began his business career, spending twelve years in various marketing positions at the J I Case Company. Dave loved time with his family, playing golf, cheering for Buckeye football, and traveling the world. He had a special place in his heart for Crystal Lake, Michigan, where he spent many happy days in his youth and then later as a dad with his kids. He had a great zest for life, loved people of all walks of life, and loved to laugh and make others laugh. He always was ready for a party! We will miss him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association or The Paralyzed Veterans of America. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.bluebonnethills.com . Bev, so many of your emails began, Dave still looks forward to each day. But he knew when it was time to let go. Leo and I are sad, but we thank you both for sharing your experience facing this awful disease with us. Condolences to you and your family. I'm grateful for the video so I can finally see all your faces! And I'm thankful I knew David when we were youngsters in church, as teens at Central and at the many reunions. He will be missed. And he will always be the quarterback of the home team!
