Wanda Thompson, age 92, passed away January 11, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Born on June 7, 1925 in Dover, Arkansas to Herman and Nora Price, Wanda grew up with five siblings - Beatrice, MT, Durah, William and Bobby - and countless aunts, uncles and cousins. Because money was scarce and entertainment hard to come by, Wanda began performing with her family and friends for what she called 'captive audiences' around the countryside, discovering in the process that she had a true gift for singing the blues and 'torch songs' that were popular during the dark days of World War II.
When the war was over, Wanda moved to San Francisco, California and met the love of her life, fellow musician and Air Force sergeant Tommy Thompson. They married in 1948 and had their only child, Rosetta Diane, in 1950. Wanda's life was her husband and child, and she took care of them joyfully, following Tommy on every tour of duty throughout his 26-year career and giving up performing professionally when her daughter was born. She often said that her life had been complete, blessed and filled with love. When she lost her soul mate in 1985, she dedicated herself to seeing to her family, focusing on her granddaughter, then her two great-grandchildren, spending precious hours with them as she 'made memories.'
Wanda Thompson was surrounded by her loving family in her final days, and the memories she created during all those years sustain them now. She is survived by her daughter, Rosetta Hoessli and her husband, Kevin, her granddaughter, Michele Hoessli, her great-grandson Kevin Thomas Hoessli, and her great-granddaughter Briana.
Visitation will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with the Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 p.m. The burial will continue at Sunset Memorial Park.

I loved to watch Aunt Wanda sing and Grandpa play the clarinet. I remember on Grandma's 60th Bday at the VFW we had hired a band & Aunt Wanda stole the show! She was so soft spoken to sing so beautiful and loud! I loved it! I am so very grateful I got to see her when I was in San Antonio over Thanksgiving week. I face timed Grandma & Aunt Teri while I was there so they could see each other. She had not changed one bit. Still the beatiful sweet entertaining lady I had always remembered. God Bless you all during this sad time. We will all be together again one glorious day! Amen!

Aunt Wanda was soft spoken, perfect posture, a devoted wife and mother, always elegant and always happy. It was apparent that family was the most important part of life. She was the model of perfection, the epitome of "classy lady", and had the best sense of humor. Some of the best moments of my life were her performances in my living room with Daddy and Uncle Tommy. For this, I will always be grateful. Rest in peace beautiful lady.

Aunt Wanda had the sweetest, warmest smile. She never said a bad word about anyone. She was very quiet, but she made up for it when she sang. It was always special when they came to visit and Aunt Wanda, Uncle Tommy, and Daddy got together, played, and Aunt Wanda sang. She had a way of make you feel so comfortable and welcome. She was loved very much and she's going to be missed.

Wanda was always a true lady and a class act. She always had a kind word for all. The world is truly a lesser place without her smile. She is now with the love of her life.

I will forever treasure the special memories of Wanda. A true lady, in every sense of the word. That beautiful smile, that beautiful voice. It never failed to amaze me when you would have to lean a little close to hear her soft-spoken words, and then watch in awe as she picked up a microphone and belted out one of her favorite songs. Her eyes would twinkle, her hips sway a bit, and you were caught up in her joy. Now heaven welcomes her as the newest member in the Angel's Choir. My deepest sympathy to the family for this great loss. I love you Wanda, and will miss you terribly.
