It is with great sadness that the family of Richard W. Rulon announces his passing on Saturday January 13th, 2018 at the young age of 63.
Richard was born on April 3, 1954 in Beverly Massachusetts to the late Richard M. Rulon and Ellen M. Hodges Rulon. After graduating from high school in 1972 in New York, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. After completing 3 years of service he moved to the Houston area where began his career in the Petro Chemical Industry. Over the next forty years he worked for Brown and Root, Georgia Pacific, BASF and Trecora. Although originally from the Northeast, he considered himself a true Texan.
Richard was a man of many interests, holding season tickets to both the Houston Symphony and the Astros baseball team. He was also an avid reader, sharing his passion for books with his family and many friends. Richard will always be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, compassion, gentleness and humor, as well as for his love for his family and friends.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving companion of 20 years, Betty Rulon: by his children Nina Richards (Bradley) and granddaughter Isabel Richards of Anna, TX., Richard S. Rulon of La Porte, TX., Rachel Blanchard (Raymond) Blanchard and grandsons Joseph, Ian and Pierce Blanchard of Baytown, TX,. He is also survived by sisters Elizabeth Perry (Brian) of Johnson City, NY and Margaret Bowers(Joe) of Pueblo, CO and brother John Rulon (Cindy) of Houston, TX. as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 23, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A memorial service and a Celebration of Life will be conducted on January 24 at 12:00 pm at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038, followed by a Committal Service at 1:15 pm at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.

I proudly served with Rick in Hawaii from 1972 to 1975. We were the Company Clerks and roommates for Alpha Company 1st Battalion 35th Infantry Division of the 25th Infantry Division. He was my best friend and we had great fun together. I know he is in good place now listening to some good music and chillin. My condolences and prayer to the Rulon Family God Bless!
