Irene Kirkhart, 93, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, passed away on January 12, 2018, two weeks after her husband of 68 years, Fred P. Kirkhart.
She is survived by her sister Carol Hartley (Dale) of Flatwoods, West Virginia, son Wayne of Carrollton, Ohio, daughter Donna Bland (George) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, grandsons Ryan Bland of Chicago, Illinois, Nick Bland (Brittany) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and great-granddaughters Isabelle and Finley Robertshaw, and Harper Bland of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
Irene and Fred grew up together in Grannies Creek, West Virginia, and married after Fred returned from military service during WWII. Throughout her life, Irene managed her household, was a teacher in a 1-room schoolhouse, a bookkeeper, and an avid reader. At the age of 61, she discovered a passion for oil painting, which continued for several decades. During these years, she generously shared her art with family and friends. However, she would say her most important roles in life were that of loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Irene will be remembered for her strength, her sense of humor, her love of people, and as she always said with a smile, her ability to eat ice-cream without gaining a single pound.
