I remember Clyde from at least early Fall of 1938 when we were both a part of the original Squadron 6, Sons of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. We continued in the Corps at least until sometime in the 40s when it disbanded -- as a result of the older members going into military service. And, from the Fall of 1942 until graduation from DHS, we were schoolmates, albeit Clyde was a year ahead of me. Our fathers were friends through their Legion affiliation, and I especially admired his becoming a Minister of the Gospel. Although we were never real close friends, we were good casual friends over a period of about 70 years; and, I am quite sadden to learn of his passing. W. Richard Mattox, Clemson SC

Fr. Clyde was a wonderful example of "The Light of Christ" in daily life and ministry. His quiet and loving demeanor led so many young people to a better understanding of what a personal relationship with our Lord can really be like. It was a privilege to meet and work with him at Gravatt and the youth ministry programs and to learn from him ways to share love of God with others. Peace and Love to Betty Jean and family. I know he's heard "Well done, good and faithful servant" as he entered into the joy of the eternal kingdom.

I remember Clyde Ireland well from the brief time he spent at Saint John's Shandon....a long time ago. What a wonderful man and priest.

Prayers to you and your family Betty Jean. Although Father Ireland has left the planet , he still remains in the Worrall family hearts. He was an inspiration to us during the time you all served at St. Johns Clearwater. He gave me much hope during my ongoing travel in faith.

Betty Jean, Stephen, Marie, Philip and Amy, I was so sad to hear last night of Clyde's passing. He has left such a positive and indelible mark on my entire family, from his service at Redeemer to family hikes and visits, to the fact that he confirmed and married me and each of my 3 siblings. Long after you all had moved on to other places and missions, we still chose Clyde to officiate at our weddings because of his kindness, compassion and, dare I say, Christ-like demeanor. And, of course, we feel the same way about you, Betty Jean. As a family, we never thought of Clyde without you, or you without Clyde, and we've been blessed beyond measure to have had both of you in our lives. I know Mom and Dad were happy to welcome Clyde "home" this past week, and I'll cherish my fond memories until the day I see them all again. In the meantime, the Goodwins and McGowans will keep all of your families in our prayers.

A light has gone out but will continue to shine. My love to you Betty Jean and your family. Still see that smiling couple during your courting days when I was a camper at Camp Gravette.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said that many people will walk in and out of your life but only the true friends will leave footprints in your heart. Thank you, Clyde, for the lasting footprints in my heart.

Long ago (late 50's) yet most fond memories of Rev. Ireland and his wife, Betty Jean. His "lead by example" fellowship and friendship as our director from days at Camp Gravatt sent so many of us summer "counselors" on the good path of life. Heyward Rawl (Lexington, SC)
