Mercidee Casey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2018.

Mercidee Williams Casey, pronounced, Mercedes was the first born to Rev. and Mrs. John Henry Williams Sr. on June 13, 1933, in Houston, Texas. Four children were born into this union. Mercidee was raised in Houston until the age of 13 when her parents ended their marriage. Her mother Mrs. Amelia Thomas Williams relocated to Dallas, Texas with Mercidee. Later, her three brothers; John Henry Jr., James Lee and Clarence Williams joined them in Dallas which remained her home until her death.

In 1946, Rev. John Henry Williams Sr. married Fannie B. Hollams and eleven children were born to this union. Mercidee as the oldest was much loved and close to all her siblings. She knew and recalled all siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews' birthdays. Mercidee was a great historian of the past.

Mercidee attended and graduated from Lincoln High school of Dallas, Texas in 1951. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She began her fellowship at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with her mother under the leadership of Rev. S.T. Alexander and Rev. A.F. Thomas. Later she moved her membership to Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Anthony E. Sharp, where she was a devoted member wearing her stylish suits along with her vast array of exquisite hats.

Mercidee gave birth to two beautiful children; Charlotte A. Jones and Reginald E. Williams Sr. She worked hard throughout her career to provide for her two children. She began her employment at Harris Stone Elementary School; where she was one of two building managers interacting and engaging with students, faculty and staff for over 10 years. Delighted in working with students she began preparing and cooking delicious meals at Southern Methodist University and Bishop College. Since she had an eye for fashion, she obtained a part-time position at Dallas Apparel Mart working with buyers, in which she was employed over 20 years dressing individuals off the showroom floors. Mercidee also performed domestic house work until she retired and after retirement she enjoyed taking care of elderly patients until her health failed her.

In 1959, she was united with Lemon Casey. Lemon had four children, Shirley Johnson-Wright, Homer, Jimmy and Howard Casey. Mercidee developed and maintained a relationship with her step children until her death. In the early 1960's Mercidee and Lemon purchased a new home in Highland Hills with her two children. Highland Hills was a close-knit community where she met and bonded with many of her neighbors. Particularly, Mrs. Catherine "Kat," Wilson who she formed a special bond and long-lasting friendship with. Mercidee depended on Mrs. "Kat" in so many ways, to include several family members and friends until God gently called Mercidee home on January 10, 2018.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Henry Williams Sr. and Amelia Thomas Bruton; her spouse, Lemon Casey; four brothers, John H. Williams, Jr. (Peggy), James L. Williams (Dorothy), Clarence Williams (Shirley) and Carl Williams; one grandson, Delvin Williams; two step-children, Shirley Wright and Homer Casey.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories a loving daughter, Charlotte A. Jones (Calvin) of Houston, Texas; a loving son, Reginald E. Williams Sr. (Hattie) of San Antonio, Texas; two step-sons, Jimmy and Howard Casey; ten adoring brothers and sisters, Dr. Lawrence R. Williams (Winifred) of San Antonio, Texas, Leroy R. Williams (Marie), Velma D. Frazier (Leonard), Rosetta Cerf (Eddie), Curtis Williams, Lawanna J. Williams, Melvin D. Williams (Donna), Gloria J. Lee(Kenneth), Rev. Charles E. Williams, Dr. Marvin J. Williams, all of Houston, Texas. Four adoring grandchildren, Reginald E. Williams Jr., of Houston, Texas, Nakeesha R. Dugas (Jeffrey) of Chicago, Illinois, Deshawn Williams (Merkitha) of Columbus, South Carolina and Amelia Jones of Houston, Texas; five step-grandchildren, Paula Watson, Kendrick, Cedric, Rodrick and Rodney Johnson; seven adoring great grandchildren, Ju'May, Mavyn Mercedes, Reagin, Ameliahan, Reginald III, Cameron and Kaleigh Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
