Douglas Louise (Gum) "Dukie" Cape, 85, of Waynesboro passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Shenandoah Nursing Home. Born June 21, 1932 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Douglas and Gladys (Brooks) Gum.
Douglas was a graduate of Waynesboro High School Class of 1949. She worked as a secretary with General Electric Special Control Department in Waynesboro prior to enlisting in the Women's Army Corps in 1967. Douglas served as a recruiter and administrative secretary for the WAC from 1967 until 1972. She was discharged with the rank of Sergeant in May 1972. Douglas retired in 1992 from ADSTAFF Personal .
Douglas was a lifelong member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had been a member of the worship choir since she was a teenager.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean L. Gum.
She is survived by her son, Charles Douglas Cape and his wife, Mina and their son, Richard Cape all of Seoul, South Korea; dear friends, Minnie and Joy Moyer; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Paul Pingel officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Douglas's memory to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, C/O The Friends Fund, 500 South Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.

Just saw this about Dukie passing awayand was sadded by the news. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dukie when we worked together at Genicom. She was a joy to be around. My sincere condolences to you all. Becky Key
