Lynwood Elsworth Hancock, 85 of Ashland, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann P. Hancock. Survived by three children, Douglas Hancock (Joanne), Ann Lynn Banton (Keith) and Winston Hancock (Susan); and his step-daughter, Michele Bulthuis (Tim) and children, Zachary and Logan Bulthuis; nine grandchildren, Adrianna Ross (Stuart), Kellen Hancock (Kristen), Adam Hancock, Whitney Hancock, Andrew Hancock, Lindsey Hancock, Mallory Banton, Cory Banton, Connor Banton; three great-grandchildren, EliJah, Althea and Tobias Ross; his loving companion, Lenora Gonyo; and his dedicated care provider, William Shelton. Mr. Hancock graduated from Virginia Tech as a Civil Engineer, was a U.S Navy Veteran, active member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, retired U.S. rural postal carrier. He was a licensed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. Active member in Hanover County over the years serving two terms on the Ashland Town Council Planning Commission and one term as Vice-Mayor of Ashland, and Executive Secretary to the Board of Supervisors of Hanover County. He held memberships with the Ashland Kiwanis Club, Ashland Junior Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of Hanover Academy, a Charter member of the Hanover Country Club. He was a member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star, the Scottish Rite body of Richmond, the Acca Shrine Temple of Richmond, and the Acca Temple Shrine Motor Patrol, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at Nelsen Funeral Home – Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. 23005 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ashland, 800 Thompson St., Ashland, Va. 23005. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fl. 33607.

Much, much sympathy and loving thoughts to all of the Hancock clan. I am your cousin ----- your dad's mother and my father were brother & sister. He was a gracious and charming man, who always took the time to include a long newsy letter in his annual Christmas card. I know you will all miss him so very much, but am sure your memories will be of wonderful times together. Blessings to each of you ---
