Sharon Berry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 21, 2018.

Sharon Cameron Berry, 73, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, in Burleson, Texas.

SERVICES: A funeral service for Sharon will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. Reception will be held in the main room of the funeral home following the service.

Born on December 13, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to Robert and Gladys Cameron, Sharon and her younger brother Michael Cameron moved around and lived in places such as Chicago, Illinois and in different parts of Florida. Sharon always felt a strong spiritual longing for God and at the age of 16, actually made inquiry with a Carmelite Convent. Heeding the Mother Superior's advice to wait a few more years to discern, Sharon graduated high school living in Chicago in 1962 and soon married Ronald A. Berry at the age of 19 in 1963. While her husband served in the U.S. Navy, Sharon lived with her in laws Arthur and Leona Berry in Lowell, MA. There she gave birth to a daughter, her first child in 1964 and then her second child and first son in 1968.

In 1970, they moved to Arlington, TX where she gave birth to another son her third child. In 1974, she took on the daunting task of being a single parent. She was hired by Kaiser Aluminum in Grand Prairie, TX where she excelled in the credit department and worked her way up to several promotions over the 14 years her job was located in Texas. During this time of her life, she continued to be drawn to Carmelite spirituality and attended many retreats. She volunteered extra time at her church teaching CCD classes, Cub Scout meetings for her son, etc. Always looking for new ways to express her strong faith, Sharon was also drawn to the Charismatic Renewal movement.

The most impressive accomplishment during this time of her life was the attention to detail and energy she put into raising her children. At one point during the time between1981-82, she was working two extra part-time jobs to make sure she had the means enough to provide, often sacrificing her own wants in a display of selflessness that defined her. In 1984, she married for a second time to Armando Saenz, however, it was brief and further proof that God had other plans for her to express a different lifetime commitment to a love. A love for serving others.

In 1989, Sharon moved to West Virginia to work in the credit department for Ravenswood Aluminum which had acquired Kaiser. This was a very rewarding time for her in the autumn years of her life as she was able to finish pursuing a degree in Human Resource Management and then later a Masters in Pastoral Theology from Wheeling Jesuit University. She graduated with honors in both. As she had most of her life, Sharon continued to leave no stone unturned in her spiritual journey to find a way to serve God. This pilgrimage took her to actually committing to an entry level into the order of Servants of Mary (Servites) in the early 1990's and later more discernment with monastic community Brothers and Sisters of Charity and John Michael Talbot. It is also noteworthy that during her time in West Virginia, Sharon was deeply involved in local parish duties in the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. It was in this capacity where she met her spiritual mentor and dear friend Father Patsy Iaquinta. When Sharon retired from Ravenswood, she decided to put her Masters to work and became a Chaplain for WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital. It was truly the profession she had been looking for all her life and the perfect calling. She worked as a Hospital Chaplain up until she had to relinquish her duties when she became ill. She moved back to Texas in order to be closer to family for the remainder of her life.

All who knew Sharon loved her. She lived every day with joy and gratitude, and was always upbeat and positive in spite of whatever challenges and struggles were in her way.

SURVIVORS: Brother, Michael Cameron, daughter, Deborah Anne Berry, sons, Timothy Paul Berry and Stephen James Berry, beloved granddaughters, Meghan Elizabeth Berry and Chantal Alexis Bradshaw, and a host of friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and grandson John Alden Ross III.

The passage of life is a great mystery. Something tells us deep in our hearts that nothing ever truly disappears, only changes into something new. A new life surely awaits Sharon, as a new chapter awaits we who remain. I'm so grateful to have the deep, lasting friendship of her son, Tim, in my life. I trust that God will grant your entire family the grace and comfort to walk through all the changes ahead and in the new and shining days to come. With heartfelt sympathies and love, Andrew W

Sharon was a gentle, spirit filled friend. I am richly blessed because she was my companion for a portion of this journey we call life. Her very presence brought peace. During our travels together, her smile, her wit and her insights were amazing. I shall always remember her awesome gentleness as she led us on a healing of memories journey at a Life in the Spirit Seminar. Well done, good and faithful servant...

Sharon was a dear of mine. We met through charismatic renewal conferences and masses. We traveled together and roomed together at the yearly conferences in many parts of the country. We shared our faith and prayed together many, many times. In 1994, she gave me a framed print of shadowed dancers with a caption at the bottom which reads...Inside each of us there awaits a wonderful spirit of freedom, the God who waits to dance in our hearts - in the places where we still do not believe in our goodness. (The God who Dances in our Hearts) Marie Celeste, O.C.D. She told me it should belong to me and I cherish it. It hangs on my wall wherever I live. I have missed her presence in my life but rejoice in the knowledge that she is now with her God. My prayers remain with her family during this time of mourning, separation and healing. She loved each of you and spoke of you often when we were sharing our lives. Rest in peace my dear friend. You impacted my spiritual life through your devotion to God and His never ending presence in your life. Until we meet again...........................

To my loving mother. Words cannot express what it feels like right now to be signing my own mother's Obituary page guest book. It doesn't seem real. What I DO know is real is that you were my everything and I will always miss you for the rest of my life. Thank you so much for giving me that life, nurturing that life and being my guiding light. I light this candle for you in our Savior's name as I know you are with Him now and in a much better place. A place that I hope to reunite with you again in. I will always love you.
