Leei Wang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2018.

Our father, Leei Wang, passed away Sunday, January 21st-six years after we lost our mother. He was
83. He lost his battle against Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease. Dad's story is like those of so many immigrants who came to this country to pursue the American dream. He was a homeless child, arrived with just twenty dollars in his pocket, and somehow put three children through college. Dad wore the same Payless shoes and took brown bag lunches to work every day for 34 years to save for our tuition. He wore old clothes so my mother and the kids could wear new ones. Only in this country could a poor kid from Shanghai rise and achieve the life he could only dream of living as a kid.
Dad served in the Air Force in Taiwan. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering
from National Taiwan University and his Master's degree in Civil Engineering- specializing in
hydropower- from Utah State University. His career at Harza Engineering took him all over the world,
and he loved to share stories of his travels. He especially loved his work in Third World countries- to
make a difference in struggling villages. He got up every day singing show tunes, Elvis and Beatles songs
while catching his Metra train for Union Station.
Dad was a fan of the Chicago Bulls, Bears, and Cubs. He loved peanuts and cheesecake. He and mom were among the founding families of OCA- Organization of Chinese Americans-helping build the Chicago chapter in the 1980's.
Leei Wang leaves behind children Judy Wang, Debbie(Tony) Wolff , Winston Wang, grandchildren
Amanda and Austin Wolff and a sister Josephine Wang.
Visitation, funeral, and burial on Friday, January 26th at Ridgewood Memorial Park,
9900 North Milwaukee Avenue in Des Plaines.
Visitation: l0am to 1pm
Service: 1pm.
Burial: 1:30pm
