Arlean M. Norton, 90, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018 at The Home of The Good Shepherd in Malta, NY with her son and daughter at her side.

She was born in Carbondale, PA on May 26, 1927, the daughter of Michael & Caroline Zagata.
A lifelong resident of Oneonta, she graduated from OHS, the Class of 1944 and was the loving wife to the late John H. (Jack) Norton.

She worked at The Oneonta Building & Loan for many years, managed the J. Gordon Downie Insurance Agency for 30 years and then worked part time for 10 years in Senator Jim Seward's Oneonta Office.
She volunteered for many years with various Oneonta Organizations including the Beta Sigma Phi Women's Sorority, Fox Hospital Auxiliary, Oneonta High School Alumni, and St. Mary's Church in various capacities. Many others benefited from her generosity, love of people, and her desire to create and share her many talents.

She is survived by her son, John M. (Jack) Norton of Mechanicville NY; her daughter Jan and husband Chris Coogan of Hilton Head Island, SC; her two loving grandsons Sean M. Coogan of Arlington, VA and Joseph H. Coogan of Fairfax, VA; and many other loving nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, January 26 from 9:00 to 11:30 AM at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta.

Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, New York 12205 or The Community Hospice Foundation, c/o, St. Peter's Hospital Foundation, 310 S. Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.

Very sorry to learn this week of the passing of Arlean. I remember her well when Jack and I were students at OHS. Her hard work and talents had a lasting positive impact. Peace to all the family.
