Sam Mellos Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2018.

Sam Mellos passed away on January 23, 2018, at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California. He was 78 years old. Sam was the father to Kathryn Mellos Mahoney and Chris Sam Mellos, and husband to Ana Mellos, with whom they shared three years together.

Born in Kapsia, Greece, he was the son of Nickoloas and Akatereni [Armonis] Mellos. He was the second oldest of four boys. He immigrated to the U.S. in the early 60's and worked a variety of jobs in order to save and invest for future generations. Most recently he was a produce manager at La Jolla Shores Market. After 20 years in the produce business, Sam retired and he focused on managing his rental properties in the Clairemont community of San Diego.

Sam was an active member of the Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (HEPA) and the Greek Orthodox Church. He could always be seen dancing and yelling "Opa!" at the local Greek festival. He will always be remembered for his jokes, laughter, and life- lesson stories. He had a passion for family and friends. He was a compassionate, sincere, and reliable friend to many. In his leisure time, he enjoyed riding bicycles at Mission Bay and gardening.

Sam is survived by his wife Ana;, two children Kathryn and Chris;, four grandchildren Jason, Christopher, Nikitas, and Chloe; and, two brothers John and Gus.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3655 Park Blvd in San Diego. The viewing will on Tuesday January 30 at 6:00 El Camino Memorial Park located at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd.
