Shirley Wallace Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2018.

Shirley Hautz Wallace, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 with family by her side. She was born on July 21, 1934 in Poquoson, Virginia to the late Nannie and Henry Hautz. She was married to her loving husband, R. E. Wallace (deceased) for 44 years and worked in Civil Service at Langley AFB for 35 years. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren with whom she frequently shared her love for sports, birds and the news. She never missed any opportunity to share family stories, life lessons, and words of wisdom with her grandchildren. She enjoyed singing gospel hymns and other songs praising her Lord Jesus Christ.

Shirley leaves behind her daughter, Kathy and her husband Maj. Kip Spurio (USAF, Ret.); sons, Dr. Joseph E. Wallace and his wife Rebecca, and Lt. Col. David E. Wallace (USAF, Ret.); and grandchildren, Tripp and Kelsey Spurio, Conor, Amanda, Renae, Rhett and Reed Wallace, and Nicole Goff.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. Following the interment the family will receive friends at 156 Breezy Point Drive, Yorktown, Virginia 23692.

We grew up around the corner from the Wallace's when we moved to Tabb in 1970. We all played football together through the years and my folks were always there with the Wallace's at the football games as we were coming along and always thought a lot of the family. I know that they are in heaven now not only with each other but with God. I am truly sorry for your great loss of your mom but try and always think of all the good times you had together as you were coming along. May the lord give you peace and tranquility in this difficult time. Steve & Betty Cutts!

Cacia Masser

The Masser family is keeping the extended Wallace family in their hearts and prayers. Shirley was a loving, lively woman with a strong spirit for living, a gift she has clearly passed on to her family. Her laughter and her smile were so kind and she welcomed my family as if we were her own. We will remember her kindness always.

Jenny Vithoulkas

To the entire Wallace family the Vithoulkas family (John, Jenny, George, Sophie and James) extends our heartfelt condolences upon the passing of a loving wife, mother and grandmother. I only had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Wallace once, but that was enough to know what a loving Christian and patriotic guide she was to all. May her memory be eternal.

To the family of Shirley Wallace

I grew up with Shirley and knew her all my life - we lost touch when I moved to LA in 2007 - before she moved to Poquoson she had lived a couple of doors down from me. I was shocked to see this in the Daily Press on-line obituaries this morning. My heart goes out to all of you with deepest sympathy as I know she will be so missed. A great lady whom I respected and loved all my life. God be with all of you at this most difficult time.
