Stephanie Cartagena Dunaway Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2018.

Stephanie Haydee Cartagena Dunaway, 20, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 8, 2018. Stephanie was a woman filled with light. She touched the heart and souls of every person she came in contact with. She had an amazing smile that was always contagious. Through her struggle with cancer, Stephanie made it a point to remain positive, and continue to live life to the fullest. She was the personification of strength and courage. She is loved by so very many, and will be greatly missed. Stephanie loved the color of mint green; loved eating sushi, Foosackly's shark gummies, taquis and Honduran Cuisine. Her favorite movies were "Beauty and the Beast", "Atlantis", "El Dorado", "Emperor's New Groove" "The Book of Life", and "Wonder Woman" (the latter being the perfect movie for one as strong as Stephanie). She also enjoyed watching the "X-Files" and "Doctor Who". Having an artistic soul, Stephanie enjoyed spending much of her time drawing and painting. She was also a huge fan of the music of Coldplay, Jon Bellion, Lana del Ray, Gorillaz, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Queen, and My Chemical Romance. Stephanie liked playing the violin and ukulele. She spent a lot of her youth dancing, and culminating her talents for her biggest passion as a member of MDBCG (The University of Alabama Million Dollar Band Color Guard). Roll Tide! Stephanie was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Maximiliano Zavala; cousin, Omarcito Acosta; and great-grandmother, Dolores Zaldivar. She is survived by her mother, Maybel Dunaway; father, Carlos Alberto Cartagena; sister, Sophia Cartagena; and her beloved pets Peanut (dog), Simba (dog), and Micho (cat). Stephanie is also survived by the love of her life, Timothy Dawes. Stephanie's family includes the following: Mr. Jose Manuel and Rosa Cartagena Briones-Cartagena Mr. Javier Cartagena and family Cartagena-Henriquez Montoya-Cartagena Villibord-Cartagena Escoto-Cartagena Cartagena-Enamorado Padilla-Cartagena Cartagena-Ortega Dunaway Zavala Dunaway McCain Gray Zavala Dominguez Zavala Acosta Dunaway Dalton Dunaway Michelle Dunaway and family Elvia Zavala Dawes family Visitation for Stephanie will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home located at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605.
